Great place if you want a basic hotel and a more authentic Africa experience, as well as safety and cleanliness. I always stay here when I'm in Dakar. If you like fancy U.S.-style hotels this is not for you. Think of this as sort of like staying in the African version of the Motel 6, without the little bottles of free shampoo. Like almost everything in Africa, it's a little shabby – a scratch on the furniture, a chipped tile in the bathroom. But it's clean and the A/C, fans and hot water all work, the towels are large and thick and it is quiet and safe. They advertise a beach but it's really just a rocky shore, although a sandy area is visible about a quarter mile away. The staff don't speak English but were nice about my bad French. Part of the building is a charming restaurant/bar with a patio that's got a beautiful ocean view. I paid 23,500 CFA per night (about $48.00 USD), and 2,500 CFA for a small breakfast in the restaurant (about $5.00). Don't plan on using a credit card – the credit card machine always seems to be broken (typical in Africa), but there are plenty of ATMs in Dakar that will take a major American Bank ATM card.
