Great place if you want a basic hotel and a more authentic Africa experience, as well as safety and cleanliness. I always stay here when I'm in Dakar. If you like fancy U.S.-style hotels this is not for you. Think of this as sort of like staying in the African version of the Motel 6, without the little bottles of free shampoo. Like almost everything in Africa, it's a little shabby – a scratch on the furniture, a chipped tile in the bathroom. But it's clean and the A/C, fans and hot water all work, the towels are large and thick and it is quiet and safe. They advertise a beach but it's really just a rocky shore, although a sandy area is visible about a quarter mile away. The staff don't speak English but were nice about my bad French. Part of the building is a charming restaurant/bar with a patio that's got a beautiful ocean view. I paid 23,500 CFA per night (about $48.00 USD), and 2,500 CFA for a small breakfast in the restaurant (about $5.00). Don't plan on using a credit card – the credit card machine always seems to be broken (typical in Africa), but there are plenty of ATMs in Dakar that will take a major American Bank ATM card.

Room Tip: I've only stayed on the first floor with a non-ocean view. The rooms were always quiet and relat...

The Hotel Cap Ouest, is a very clean an charismatic hotel situated withinwaling distance of the airport and in front of the beach. It has a decent internet wireless access connection, and the ambience is relaxed and almost quiet! The relation price-quality s also good.

Cap Ouest was a nice little budget hotel on the beach in Yoff Senegal, near Dakar. If you have traveled to West Africa before you know not to expect to much, so knowing this my stay in Cap Ouest was ok. Almost no one in Senegal speaks English, so unless you do ,or your "other half "does, i wouldn't advise this as a destination to visit. Dakar is also the 2nd most expensive city in Africa.
The hotel is not as advertised on the internet, there has been some photo editing in those shots. It is unpainted to a large degree, resturant chairs are plastic el cheepo's. No rooms have a TV, and there is no tea or coffie making facilities. There is however some hot water,(rare in houses in senegal)but it lasts about 1 minute till it goes cold. The rooms upstairs were quite nice considering all this, but the rooms downstairs were not nice at all. More like camping downstairs.
The food at the little resturant/bar was very nice However. Broche de lott was a very nice dish indead, as was the traditonal senegalese cus cus style dish. The staff looked after us very well, and were always happy and friendly. I was there to surf and for that reason i did not mind roughing it. (Ouakam was a terrific surf spot). Just remember , when in Senegal keep your wits about you, and your wallet in your underwear. You must arrange a price before you do most things (eg Taxi), and if your white you will be a target for every begger in town, all prices inflated at the start, and every man wanting to change your money for you. Be carefull. Beware at the markets, if you look interested in something, a crowd can soon gather round you, and your wallet or phone might just dissapear.
