Went to this restaurant last week for the first time. It was SO good, we went back again the next night and it was just as good. The chef, Momo (?) used to be at Bella Roma near the Presidential Palace, but he is now on his own at Le Cozy.
It is 1 block off the lower end of Independence Square on a side street. A little difficult to find in the dark until you are up close. Inside, it is very modern and well lit with a nice bar to wait if your table is not ready.
The first night, never having been there before, we just asked the chef to surprise us. He first brought out a wonderful green curry shrimp stew/soup that was just fabulous. Lots of great flavor. Then he selected an angus filet for me (he asked me whether I liked beef first) that was perfectly done in between "saignant" and "a point", just like I asked. It was without question the best piece of beef I have had in my many trips to Senegal. After, he selected out 2 different desserts for the table to share- A molten chocolate cake and a "french toast" which was a wonderful sort of angel-food cake thing with vanilla creme over it. It looked like a piece of breakfast french toast, but it was so much better.
The next night, I ordered a pan seared thick whitefish filet. It was very thick, cooked perfectly through and had a crunchy bread crumb crust that was well seasoned. He told me the type of local fish, but I didn't recognize the name. Very mild. It came with garlicky green beans.
There were quite a few delicious wines from around the world that I was unfamiliar with, but his recommendations were spot-on.
We were staying at the Pullman hotel about 4 blocks away. Le Cozy had MUCH better food than the hotel and the next time I return to Dakar, I will definitely go back!!
