Massive construction, tall and good view of dakar from the top. Inside the building, some paint and pictures describe the monument, different construction phases etc.
THe guide told us the monument is pointing The US Statue of Liberty and is the tallest monument in the world. I can't confirm this latest statement

Seeing that statue - the tallest in the world, on African soil, made me feel proud to be African! Many people have negative comments but who are they to say anything about art in another country? It's a magnificant work of art and the Senegalese paid for it themselves privately so what's the problem?

Pleasant tour, thankfully we had a group of 5 quite quickly. Took about 45mins. It's a dramatic approach driving up to the monument.

The reward for the 200 plus steps (or it seemed like that many!) up to the monument is a great view over Dakar and down the coast towards the central city.
