If you are planning a trip to Dakar, than Djoloff is the best place to stay. The staff is extraordinaire, very helpul and friendly, they have a great terrace to enjoy your breakfast, luch or dinner, their menu is very tasty and more of that you feel safe.

I stayed at the Djoloff for two weeks in January on a business trip. I can really say it was a perfect stay. Cosy and characterful hotel, excellent room and facilities as well as delicious and extremely varied food (such I had very limited incentives to explore options in the neighbourhood). The menu changes on a daily basis depending on the catch of the day; most of the menu is served in small portions (tapas) and it is quite nice to build up your own favourite meal (and quantities). The restaurant is on the third floor, a terrace with a gorgeous view overlooking the fish market. And the icing on top of the cake is the lovely and helpful staff that really made me feel 'chez moi'. Small details that made my staying very special. I wish there could be such a cosy and well-organized hotel everywhere I go on a business trip!

By all means, a stay at the Djoloff is highly recommended - either on business or on holiday in Dakar – if you are looking for cosy place, full of character with an unbeatable value for money for Dakar.

After a 1am arrival and a 90 min drive to take us the 13km to the hotel from the airport (worth noting on a major party night/national holiday such as NYE, since it's one main road along the coast, 1000s of taxis and multiple clubs and bars en route) we arrived in a suburban street to small unassuming building which is closed up at night with night porter.

Passed the Radisson Blu which looked from the outside to be the most stylish/advanced of the hotels en route and close to some major shops/nightlife.

Quick check in to our rooms which were small but spotlessly clean. Great air con and very comfortable bed.

Breakfast on the terrace was well below average and since New Year's Day was a holiday, difficult to tell if there were many alternatives in the near by area of worth, but the local boulangerie was not very appealing so skipped breakfast and made our way to the next stop.

We arrived at Hotel Le Djoloff directly from the airport. This was our first trip to Senegal and we quickly got a taste of Senegalese hospitality (excluding the crush at the airport of course). Staff were quick to assist us with carrying our many bags upstairs and getting us settled into our two rooms. The hotel has a number of original pieces of art that balanced with a spare décor make for a calm and relaxing feel to the entire property. The rooms are efficient and pleasant. I do wish we had rooms with outward views, but the interior rooms we had met our needs for the one night we were there. We were encouraged to head up to the terrace where welcome drinks awaited us - a lovely baobob and hibiscus juice mocktail. We followed our drinks with a late lunch of several tappas, including several vegetarian dishes which we appreciated. The view was lovely and staff very accommodating. Breakfast in the morning was also on the terrace and again was perfect. I will admit to being surprised at finding such a variety of options and such fresh foods. I want to note that the boutique in the lobby of the hotel has really lovely and unique items. Throughout our two week stay in Senegal I was wishing I had purchased an item I had seen there on our first day in the country!

The hotel building, rooms, and roof terrace restaurant are all lovely and this is an oasis of calm in Dakar. Just a few things to bear in mind though. Our hotel organised our transfer from the airport and told us, by email, that the cost would be 15 euros, then tried to charge us 20 euros on arrival "because it was after 3pm" even though our flight arrived on time at the time we had told them. We also used Djoloff to transfer to the next hotel even though the cost was roughly double what a street taxi quoted - the Djoloff car has seat belts and working doors and windows which many Dakar taxis do not. Some of the staff are helpful but you may not get concierge services from Djoloff if there's nothing in it for them - we asked how to get a boat to Îles des Madeleines and got nothing more than a gesture towards the nearby beach (we later found out there is one company - Oceanium - who offer official tours as opposed to the fishermen who will take you from the beach but aren't licensed to do so). There are several different wi fi connections at the hotel but none of them work well. As for the restaurant, if you want variety for breakfast, arrive early and be prepared to ask for what you want. We ate there once in the evening - not great, but not bad by the standards of Dakar.

Le Djoloff is always a great place to go for a sunset and tapas. One has to go with a sense of adventure though as this is Africa and the unexpected can be expected. The bar was out of lemon juice which meant that all but one cocktail were no available. A new building now partially blocks the view on the sea, but the tapas is still the best in town. The decoration isnice and service good, so it's a good place to go.

Wonderful, well done boutique style hotel in Dakar. The rooms are simple, but done in a very artful way. The rooftop is the gem with a great breakfast/dinner/bar area for enjoying the views and just hanging out. Stayed here for four nights for a conference and it was well worth it.

Room Tip: May want to avoid street side rooms on main road.
