“Nice stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 5, 2014

Its clean and beds are comfortable, CNN available. About 10 minutes from the airport - they offer an airport shuttle. Didn't make much of the internet though.

Bathrooms could use some maintenance. Friendly staff and great food. Also located in a good area where a few restaurants and cafe's are located. City dia supermarket is also 2 minutes walk from the hotel.

Okay for short term stay

This review is based on spending 6 nights over a 4 month period.

Plusses - Close to airport, spotlessly clean, friendly staff, roof terrace/bar, menu decent but nothing special, pool is good, comfortable bed,

Cons - internet VERY unreliabe (2 stays had zero connectivity), slow service - especially if you want a beer in the evening on the roof bar, room lighting is very poor making the rooms appear dark and dingy when in fact they are of a good standard. Luckily these were all business trips as I think this hotel is quite pricey for what you get....

We use the Fleur de Lys as a stopover hotel in Dakar. It is conveniently located close to our offices and the airport; offering wifi and shuttle bus facilities. The rooms and toilets are spacious but need some refurbishing. The rooftop breakfast provides nice views of Almadies area.

This property is in the Almadies area of Dakar and a 15 minute walk from the new US Embassy. It is a 34 room boutique property.
Pluses:
Great, friendly staff, that is most helpful
Rate is good and comes with complimentary breakfast
Roof top lounge area (covered) is a real plus. Breakfast is served there and other meals can optionally be served there as well. There is a bar there that is available all evening. The atmosphere is very flexible, informal, and serves as a place where you can get out of your room.
Nearby are several reasonable and quite nice restaurants (Moroccan 2 doors down, French 3 doors down, French one block down, and La Pointe Restaurant is a 15 minute walk).
Shopping center is about 3 blocks north of the hotel, but is not obvious and the walk is a bit indirect.
Rooms are clean and adequate, not luxurious
Area is relatively safe and well lighted along the main street. Side streets, however are not paved and are dark.
The airport is close and quite convenient, at least until the new airport miles away from the downtown area opens.

Minuses:
Hot water lasts about 4 minutes and goes cold very rapidly.
Internet is horrible. When it works, it is slow. We stayed two weeks and had four days on which the internet was completely out starting around 6 PM and lasting until the next morning. It was always blamed on Orange, but strangely enough it was remedied in the mornings as soon as the manager arrived. This is just about a deal breaker as it was so bad. The hotel management needs to realize that the internet is not an option or luxury, but rather a business necessity. The rapid development of this area as "An Embassy Row" is going to bring competition and higher expectations from guests. Without reliable internet, guests will make other lodging arrangements if this situation continues.
One narrow elevator, however with only 5 floors, stairs give you plenty of exercise
Liver for breakfast for 4 straight days!

Overall, a good value and recommended, however you must be able to function with an unreliable internet.

Room Tip: Corner rooms on the front seem better - I had to move from another room that seemed to be run down a...

I certainly can not rave about any aspect of our one week stay at the Fleur de Lys, nor can I complain about anything overall. Could use better bed pillows and the rooms are "compact", but clean, comfortable, good wi-fi and adequate facilities. Rooftop bar/restaurant/breakfast a plus. Walking distance to many nice restaurants, the ocean, and the airport. Close your eyes and you'll never know you're in Dakar.

Room Tip: Some rooms have better wifi reception than others. If your wifi doesn't work, LAN cable cords a...

If you need to stay in Almadies, this hotel is a nice enough place. It is about a 20-25 minute walk from the Point des Almadies and a 5-10 minute walk from the Virage Mamelles. The room was fine, although the pillows were a bit lumpy. The hotel has a free shuttle to the airport, which is convenient. Breakfast was nothing special, but sufficient. The rooftop pool is very relaxing and has good views of the sea and the city, although it is very small--it cannot really handle more than a few people.

Lovely terrace restaurant with views looking out to sea. The hotel is really close to the airport, which is very convenient and surprisingly quiet. There's a good shuttle service from the airport.
Rooms are basic but fine.
Wi-fi connection was fast and worked well throughout the hotel. Close to lots of clubs in the Amadines area.
Work-wise - they had excellent simultaneous translation facilities.
