We had a private guide arranged for the tour here. He made it extremely personal with accounts of his own family and friends. I recommend this if possible. It was very educational because we didn't know the history behind the fighting. Terribly moving and emotional experience. Not to be missed.

To understand the story is the best way to improve the future and honrate the past. Gisozi is the place to know more about the 1994 genocide.

Take the time to read the exhibits inside, which give you a powerful and emotional description of the 100 days of horror in 1994, but don't forget to walk through the mass graves outside to remember the victims.

This museum provides a numbing review of the country's genocide with many pictures and video stories. Once you better understand the history, your visit will be that much more meaningful. In hindsight, I think a visit to this museum later in your vacation would not allow you to relate to and enjoy the wonderful people of this great country

memorial has been maintained with great effort. Additional power backup in case if power supply failure can be catered for.
