I stayed here on two different occasions. The staff were pleasant, the rooms comfortable and clean if shabby, but I found the lighting inadequate both times - second time, no bathroom lights at all and the shower didn't work. Plenty of mosquitos but no net in my room. My room faced the street but the neighborhood was quiet. On both visits, wifi internet access was pretty unreliable, which was a handicap for me. All of these shortcomings would be more tolerable in a room costing half what I was paying. On the plus side, breakfast offered a good choice of abundant food, the dinner I ate in their restaurant was good and there are some very nice restaurants within walking distance nearby. From the airport by taxi is about 1/2 hr and 10,000Rwf.

Room Tip: No lifts, so don't go too high unless you like the exercise

I have just returned to Scotland from an eight day stay in The Hotel Gorillas, Kigali. It is a comfortable hotel, full of character with extremely helpful and welcoming staff from the front desk staff, waiters and waitresses, to the cleaners and manager. The food was well prepared and very tasty; I would recommend the local beef or goat stew and the fish dishes. The rooms were clean and quiet with the majority having views out across the city. The central garden is a nice feature to look on from the corridors. There is also a garden to the rear with tables and seating which provides a relaxed environment for a pot of tea or a beer. I have many happy memories of my stay and look forward to returning next year.

I spent a night here on my way to a conference in northern Rwanda. The last time I stayed here was seven years ago, and it seems about the same. The best part of the hotel is the restaurant area. The pleasant outside portion is a delightful place to check on email, etc., and the food is pretty good. The rooms are quite outdated, and after 39 trips to Africa, I still am amazed at the lack of proper bathroom layout / design. The shower / tub is guaranteed to soak the entire floor and the door doesn't fully open because it bumps into the sink. Yet, the overall size of the bathroom is enormous. All that aside, it's a reliable, safe, and friendly place in Kigali.

I stayed here for ten days with thirty friends from around the world on a medical mission. Rooms are adequate, as described, and a real bargain. Great value. Restaurant is fantastic. Location is great for walking to dinner at some of Tripadvisor's favorites, including #1, Republica...10 minutes max thru very safe streets. Wifi is free, best in the restaurant tho marginal on higher floors.

The main thing that seperates Gorillas-Kivu from all others is the staff. Mary and Poppy at the desk became great friends. A very considerate woman in the restaurant noticed that I had porridge each morning so brought me some, without my asking, when it was not offered on the breakfast buffet. I sat down in the restaurant early one morning to take advantage of the wifi and that same sweetie brought me a cup of coffee, again without my asking.

Next time you're in Kigali, stay at Gorillas Hotel. You too can feel the love.

Room Tip: Ask for a fan in your room upon check-in. Wifi best in restaurant. Take advantage of beautifully l...

Hotel Gorillas has a lot of amenities that the western traveler needs. The rooms are small and most have a view of the street, but all rooms share a common garden view in the center, which is nice. The bathroom doesn't have all the frills, but it has all the necessities that will get you refreshed and back out exploring the city. The best aspect of of the hotel is the peaceful lounge and bar/restaurant, where they serve big mugs of Mützig beer. The food is pretty good and the service is decent but if you don't want to eat at the hotel you are within walking distant to plenty other hotels and restaurants. Remember this place is the land of a 1000 hills and you be walking a few of those.

Stayed here on tour so don't know value for money status. But pleasant stay. Room small but has everything you need. Restaurant ok though a little expensive. Good walking distance from city centre, including 2 nearby Indian restaurants.

Room Tip: Recommend Garden Indian Restauarant

Hotel Gorillas is a hotel with clean, good rooms, and nice views from the upper floors. I stayed there for three weeks while working in Kigali.
The breakfast has excellent choices of fruit and fruit salads, your choice of omelette and dull white bread, thermo coffee (in a country producing excellent coffee beans). Staff in restaurant was extremely kind.
However, I fought with the wifi in the rooms for all three weeks.
Hotel Gorillas is placed less than one and a half hilly kilometer from excellent Indian restaurant - Khana Khazana - and very good American restaurant Heaven, Hotel Mille Collines and Bourbon Cafe.

Room Tip: Test wifi and take upper floor rooms
