“Free Shuttle”
Reviewed December 23, 2013 via mobile

The Landstar Hotel is a clean, welcoming place near to the airport. There doesn't seem to be much to do in the neighborhood around the hotel, but Kigali is a pretty small city so getting to interesting places is easy and affordable (about $1 for a moto-taxi from the hotel to the Genocide Memorial).

The best part about the Landstar is the free taxi that shuttled us to and from the airport. We had a 2am flight arrival time and were quite relieved to see the driver waiting for us once we got our bags.

The continental breakfast is simple, but good with a variety of fruits and bread, coffee and tea.

Stayed there for 3 nights. The hotel is conveniently located, about 10mins drive from the airport. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I had a problem with the sink in my room and this was immediately sorted out by maintenance.

Yes there is free wifi internet connection in all rooms!!

I took the suite room facing the main road, noise was not a problem at all. However, the room did not have AC or fan!! The tv was not connected to dstv and there were only 4 channels on with poor reception.

Restaurant on the ground floor serves excellent food at very affordable prices. They even deliver to your room for an additional charge of RWF 1,000.

Overall, the staff and the great restaurant made my stay pleasant and I would definitely stay there again.

Overall; poor maintenance and upkeep have reduced this potentially decent hotel into a thoroughly rundown motel (Feb 2012). We were a party of over 30 and each of us had identical experiences. One of us changed rooms 3 times in search of something better before giving up.
Positive; clean reception area, very polite staff, nice large balcony for each room.
Negatives: Too many to count, but here are the common ones:
-Room service involves making the bed and folding the one towel you get, the towel is changed once every 3-4 days whether you leave it on the floor or not (so use wisely).
-floor carpet very dirty with no sign of vacuuming in the past year or so.
- bathroom water pressure extremely weak, hot water sometimes not available.
-bathroom floor floods when flushing toilet or taking a shower, amenities falling apart all over.
-room lighting is ridiculous throughout - almost impossible to do keen tasks like shave or read (carry portable lighting).
-no AC so rooms can get warm, as a result you get plenty of noise from the street due to obligatory open windows (the opposite side is quieter)
-Tiny TV with only 2 working channels (24 hr soccer; and 24 hr preaching, in French).

Room Tip: The garden side rooms are quieter at night. When ordering food, expect a wait time of about 2 hr (t...

This hotel is conveniently situated, minutes from the airport, near to shops and restaurants and with taxis and motorbikes easy to find. The staff are unusually friendly, pleasant and helpful (although the receptionist did fail to pass on a simple message to another guest). But the facilities leave something to be desired. On two visits to the hotel I occupied a total of four rooms, being moved on because of a smell of damp, non-working bathroom facilities, TV with no picture etc. On the second visit the lobby was full of water as they attempted to mend a leak and the power had to be turned off to allow the workmen to work near the cables. There is a small restaurant and bar I wasn't inclined to eat or drink anything other than the breakfast which was absolutely fine. Once they get everything sorted out, and assuming they keep the same staff, this could be an excellent bed & breakfast.

Room Tip: Avoid the road-side

Wow! Its true what they say, people make the place! The staff was accommodating, friendly, and kept the hotel spotless! And the tea with honey is a nice touch when traveling through Rwanda. I really enjoyed the level of service during our extended group stay, which included a hearty breakfast buffet- hardboiled egg, cheese, toast, fruit, juice, coffee, tea, and my personal favorite- the beans and potatoes. The room we stayed in had a nice design to allow for the natural breeze, which is theme in this great climate. It was great to have a room balcony and also to eat outside under the thatched roof patio.

The best value in Kigali. In no time we felt like family with the hotel staff and manager. Never have I seen such commitment to accommodating all our needs to assure an amazing stay in Rwanda. From driving us to their favorite Kigali locations, to meeting us with fresh pastries at 4:30 AM as we left on safari. Good-byes were only softened by knowing we have new lasting friendships with some of Africa's most amazing people at Micheal's Den. We'll definitely return!

This is a new hotel located in Remera, a small commercial hub about 8 kilometers from the centre of Kigali. The staff are all very friendly and helpful and go out of their way to meet any requirements you might have and to give you advice about how to get to where you want to go. Good internet connection is also available.
The rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean. I had a room overlooking the street, which during the day can appear noisy because of the constant traffic outside. However as most people go home to bed early, the traffic noise drops to practically nothing by about 10 pm so I had no trouble at all sleeping. There are rooms overlooking the small garden area out the back, but I would recommend the street side because it gives visitors the chance to watch a slice of daily life in Remera, which is always entertaining.
The restaurant is good value and does an excellent breakfast. There is a buffet on busy days, or you can ask for exactly what you want from a selection of fruit juice, cereal, porridge, toast, omelette, plate of selected fruits, tea and coffee.
On Friday night there is a small band that comes to play Rwandan and Congolese music in the bar area, which makes it a popular spot for Rwandans. Settle back and enjoy with some local beer or get up and dance if the mood takes you - it is a very relaxed fun evening.
Overall this hotel is MUCH better value than the more famous Chez Lando nearby which from what I heard used to be good years ago, but has been resting on its laurels for a while.
