Went there for a couple of days. Rooms have all you come to expect from a mercure hotel, the food was excellent and the pool with a panoramic view over the city is great. There was a nice band playing by the pool in the evening which gave a really nice ambiance to relax and get in the mood.

My wife and I went to Reunion for our honeymoon in November 2011. We arrived at the hotel and was met with friendly staff and service. The rooms are very neat and the food is fantastic. The hotel really goes out of their way to make your stay pleasant. They booked excursions for us and suggested restaurants that will give us the perfect Reunion experience. Because the country is predominantly French it was difficult to get along sometimes but it just made the stay even more adventurous. The friendly staff was even able to help when we were stuck in town at 2am in the morning... Unfortunately the hotel is not in the ideal location. It is very far from town and a walk there takes a while. Taxis are expensive (20Euro per trip!) and the bus, although nice, not a very romantic option. The essence of the island lies elsewhere for adventure seekers and this causes you to travel a lot. Would not recommend the Hotel to someone looking for a holiday but is ideal for business people. Rather buy your plane tickets and find lodging as you tour the island.

Basically nothing wrong with this hotel, nice room, nice decorations inside the room as well. all ok, however the following i did miss:

-no anti-slip mat in the bath ( or self-adhesice strips). Minor? No, bath was slippery and together with a glass seperation i.s.o. a shower curtain, and no handle as well, I find that dangerous

-no bathrobe, whilst a beautifull pool present. So you have to " change" at the poolside and/or leave a wet trail returning to your room. Pitty, as said, a beautifull pool

-no safe. For a hotel of this stature, I missed that. Comments at the reception ( very willing to store valuables, that is not the point) " no problem overhere sir"

For the remainder: all in order, food ok, staff ok, but on the other hand nothing really special, apart from view and pool

Stayed at the Mercure on a combined worktrip and holiday. Got a room on the top floor which had been renovated recently and had a nice boutique feel to it. We had absolutley stunning views of St. Denis from the room. We did have a balcony but this was quite small compared to the other rooms however we did manage to squeze in two chairs for our evening G&T! The hotel got a massive pool which is really nice although it was very windy when we were there. We ate once in the restaurant whcih was very good although a bit pricy. The service level was very high at the hotel and the Columbian receptionist Alex was extremely helpful and gave us a lot of tips about the island

The only downside of the hotel it is not that central and taxis are exorbitant priced. However the hotel do have a shuttle service and there are two main buslines just outside the hotel. The price for a single trip is €1.60 but as the buses stop runing at around 8PM you will have to get a taxi back if you eat out in the evening. TIP: If you do get a taxi, ask for a receipt as the driver will then knock-off around €5 of the metered price. Not sure why but it worked all the time

Room Tip: Rooms on the top floor have a small balcony but have stunning views and are renovated so would recom...

Although the room was supposedly "refurbished" it did look circa 1970! However, the amenities were very good including Nespresso machine, LCD TV, AC, large Bathroom with shower and bath, and bathrobe. Would have been nice if there had been two of everything though! Sharing a bathrobe and a single Nespresso was a little strange! Breakfast was great and cocktails at the bar went down well. The pool is magnificent and the view amazing. The real thing that lets the hotel down is its location at around 5KM from St. Denis proper. Although there are a few free shuttles in/out of the city centre/airport these stop at 5PM return and as there are no restraurants in walking distance you either need to eat at the hotel (not too bad) or take a taxi which at 20Euro each way is very steep.

We booked online and then contacted the hotel to arrange a tour for us and some friends to the volcanoe. The hotel arranged the trip which was very well organised.
The hotel is close to the airport which was convenient - they also have a free shuttle bus pick up from the airport between 9 am and 7 pm.
We had a mishap in our room and the hotel apologised and provided us with complimentary cocktails that night and breakfast for two the next day.

Room Tip: Superior rooms on the 3rd or 4th floor looking to the mountains - spectacular at night!
