Would be perfect if it were closer to centre ville! Stayed on 2 different occasions. Had to book through expedia when hotel was apparently 'full'. One room was very ordinary, old bathroom, dull decor, the next was great view, obviously refurbished. Paid the same rate? Hotel amenities excellent, and pool is simply spectacular. Be sure to have good french, and forget cabs, local bus is much more available, timely and organised. Lovely stop before flying out!

During the world cup we included Reunion on our trip and we loved it. The island is exrtremely beautful and green. We started in St. Denis and stayed at the Mercure. The staff was very friendly, our room had a balcnoy with a nice view over the town and to the Indian ocean. breakfast was also very good. We recommend this hotel also because its quite but also central location.

We hired a car when we were on honeymoon in Reunion so getting to the hotel was no problem at all! We stayed at Mercure on the day we landed in Reunion before going to the St Pierre for the rest of our trip and because we liked it so much we decided to stay again one night before we had to fly back home.

The rooms are really big. The first time we stayed there we stayed in a "budget" room which was quite big and had a modern bathroom which was heavenly to use! The last night of our holiday when we staye there we chose a "privlege" room and we had a really HUGE room with a balcony overlooking the town and the ocean. The room had a lounge area as well and once again a comfy huge bed!

We had dinner on both nights that we stayed there and we were quit pleased with the meals. For breakfast it was great, they had a huge selection of food: croissants, breads, cheese, eggs, jams, yogurts, cereals, bacon, eggs, crepes, juices, etc.

The customer service was great, most of the staff spoke English and were able to help with all our requests.

There is also an outdoor bar with a great view over St Denis and the ocean. You also get a welcome drink voucher when you stay at the hotel which you can use at the bar.

There was also free wifi which could be accessed!

We enjoyed our stay at Mercure and would recommend it to those in transit!

My partner and I initially stayed in this hotel for one night on the day we arrived on Reunion, but then decided to stay for another night later in the month because we liked it so much. We got a very cheap room offer because we travelled in the off-season, and half of the hotel was closed because of renovation works. Therefore, my review might be a little biased because I believe we got incredible value for very little money.

A few things you might want to know first, as there seems to be some confusion in the reviews:
1. This hotel has a FREE shuttle bus from and to the airport. This saves you usually around 25 Euros per trip. Make sure you include that in your budget calculations, this is a bonus.
2. The hotel is NOT within walking distance of the town centre of St Denis. Getting there would be a major hike, and you will be forced to take a public bus or taxi.
3. If you don't need access to the town centre (because you are only in transit, or you know that there is really not much to see in St Denis), then I believe this is the best hotel you can get in St Denis.
4. Standards on Reunion are a little lower than in Europe, but as the Mercure Creolia calls itself 3 Stars, it can definitely compete.

The view from the hotel is one of the finest in St Denis - you look over the whole town, and the Indian Ocean. It has a very nice swimming pool and Jacuzzi, and a small fitness room (tread-mill and bike). Rooms have a TV with the usual bunch of French channels and BBC world news. The rooms are a little small, but furnished sensibly, with a nice bed and a very good bathroom, a fan, and good air-conditioning. Throughout the whole hotel, you have access to free Wifi, which is very rare on Reunion Island.
The hotel has a small outside bar, which is nice hang out in because of the views and the generally mild temperatures. It also has a very nice little restaurant, which you are most likely forced to use because of the distance to the town centre. Prices are around 20 Euros per meal. The breakfast is fantastic - a vast range of French croissants and other bakery goods, lots of fruits and juices, etc. The people at the reception are extremely efficient, very friendly, and speak fluent English.
We weren't able to access some of the facilities because they were currently under construction - there seemed to be some sort of lounge room, and maybe a bigger restaurant space, but for the short duration of both our stays, it didn't matter.

Conclusion:
If you fly into Reunion Island on your way to somewhere else (Madagascar, Seychelles, etc) and you have to spend a night on the island and are not interested in town access, this is, I believe the best hotel. Arrange your airport pickup beforehand, and you save a whopping 40-50 Euros return which you would have otherwise wasted on a taxi. Although the hotel won't blow your mind, it is definitely very nice for Reunion standards.

This hotel is a very good address for business people. Very frequented also by airline crews. Free shuttle service from / to the airport and from / to the city centre. Staff friendly and helpful. Magnificient large pool ! Restaurant expensive but very very tasty dishes. Rates don't necessarily include breakfast but the regular 15 EUR are not too much for what you get for it. Only point you should be aware of is if you have a company rate insist on what the room features are and don't get lectured by them that some things would not be included due to the reduced rate.
