“A definite thumbs-up!”
Reviewed February 3, 2014

Planned to stay at Haus Sonneneck for 4 nights, but chose to stay an extra night because it such a nice place and I enjoyed it so much. It is situated in a nice quiet area and relatively close to all amenities.
There is secure parking and the property is in a secure location. The rooms are very large and spacious and are kept impeccably clean. Beds are comfortable and the beading is perfect for the climate.
The garden is beautiful with lots of big trees around that attract numerous bird species. And like the rooms, the garden is kept immaculate.
The breakfast is of a very good quality and you can really choose whatever you want. The ingredients are always fresh and the service is excellent.
The staff and the owner are amazing and will go out of their way to help and make your stay comfortable.
Of all the places I have ever stayed in, this is the first mini-bar that has actually got reasonable and sensible prices :) It is always kept stocked with some of the local beers (which are excellent) and there is a good selection of softdrinks available.
I definitely plan to come back to this B&B quite soon again, and I can strongly recommend Haus Sonneneck to anyone who is looking for a comfortable, hassle-free stay in Windhoek. All in all it's an extremely well run establishment.

Room Tip: Closer to the office will have a stronger WiFi signal

We spent a very pleasant two days at this Guest House. Large attractive rooms with a private garden for each one. Breakfast is included and the helpful English,German and Africaan speaking will give you almost anything you like to eat. They have a small swimming pool and internet access. The price is reasonable particularly for double rooms.

Room Tip: The rooms nearest the gate or nearest the main house have the best internet access.

We have no hesitation in recommending this B&B. It is in a very quiet and safe area. You do need to take a taxi to get to the town but this is very reasonably priced. The rooms are very spacious and clean. You have your own sitting area outside - out the back of the room. Tea and coffee are provided. Lovely bathroom with good shower. Lovely pool area. Breakfast room is spacious and clean. Tables and chairs are provided to sit outside on. The owner and staff are English speaking, friendly and very helpful. The dachshound called Yule is friendly and likes a bit of fuss!

My husband and I were anxious to relax, following our 18 hour flight from the USA. Windhoek offers several nice accommodations, but Haus Sonneneck provided comfort and service that far exceeded our expectations!

Our room was very spacious, very comfortable, and squeaky clean! The private patio was perfect for drinking coffee in PJs, while observing a variety of Namibia's colorful, wild birds. The German owners keep their "Garden-of Eden" meticulously manicured and also offer a chemical-free pool for guests. SUPER!

Best of all, the warm and friendly owners treated us like family! Our luggage was lost in Johannesburg, but, Gisela and Rudy provided us with toothbrush, deodorant, shampoo, and warm coats! Gisela directly phoned the airline multiple times to help us track our luggage. When the airline said it might take a few days to deliver our bags, Gisela applied pressure...
EUREKA...our bags were at the doorstep within 24 hours. (Delivered at 7:00PM by the supervisor''s daughter and her date!)

Haus Sonneneck B&B is located in Eros Park, an upscale neighborhood, only 5 minutes drive from a local grocery store and some great restaurants. (We especially enjoyed the variety of wild meats available at Joe's Beer House!)

Note: The streets of Windhoek are nicely paved and CLEARLY marked with illuminated signs. Self-driving is very easy, except that Namibian's drive on the left side of the road. Haus Sonneneck has ample parking space, inside their gated property.

We stayed here for four nights upon our arrival in Namibia where we were to spend six weeks in all. This is a wonderfully managed bed and breakfast. The rooms are very large, with excellent cross ventilation and air conditioning (not needed always, even in summer). There is a very nice private garden/patio with each room. Television and phone service are good, and the owner is very generous in allowing internet use at the office.

Everything is absolutely spotless, and the garden and pool area are very, very pretty. The breakfasts are given in an airy building overlooking the pool. The parking is convenient, and each guest is given an automatic gate opener for the excellent security fence, but the parking does not interfere in any way with the view from the rooms.

The atmosphere is German in the sense that the decorations are very pleasant, perfectly maintained, but the atmosphere is in the garden, the owners and the great breakfast.

  • Liked — The integration of the rooms with the garden, and the quiet.
  • Disliked — Actually, it was just great.
