Windhook , Villa Verdi: A friendly experience.
19 May 2008.
Rooms are large, comfortable, perhaps a little cold, but you can ask for an electric blanket . All the stafff in the Guest House are kindly and efficient. They help us with the luggage, which has been lost during the flight in South Africa by the airline (Malaysia Airline). We enjoy the breakfast and dinner, the first night outside, in the garden and the last one inside because it was too cold. We stayed there the first and the last night of our trip in Namibia. The hotel is localizated near the shops, just five minutes walking.
We have travelled by self driving for more than 4000 kilometers and really enjoyed everything in Namibia.

An uninspiring place with limited secure parking.
The lodgings look much better in the slick brochure.

The rooms are dark and uninviting, and are adorned with a hotchpotch of furniture.
The beds are good, though.

The curtains had not been washed in ages.

The breakfast was mediocre.

Fortunately, there are some good restaurants nearby.
We dined at ‘Nice’ which is deserving of its name.

Staff generally very friendly, caring and helpful. We arrived early and could already get into our room at 1100. Location very convenient for shopping (10 minutes) and town centre (15 minutes walk). On day of departure from Namibia we could stay as day guests and use the pool and towels. Room clean and well maintained for African standards. Food was fine, no extensive a la carte, but choice of 2 dishes. Quality of food fine, perhaps the quantity not enough for big eaters. Some street noise but nothing excessive. On the down side, we asked for a cot for our 2 year old and were given a small size bed for him. Also, as described by others on this site, we did witness Villa Verdi being overbooked. The staff was very apologetic to the person involved and swiftly organised alternative accomodation . it seems Villa Verdi is now owned and run by Leading Lodges. They were supposed to have organised a transfer from the international airport for us, but the taxi never showed and we had to make our own arrangements.

This is the worst accomodation I have ever stayed in. Tiny room with cheap fittings, broken floor and wall tiles, scruffy bathroom, paper thin towels, colllapsed mattress , no hot water etc etc. When I complained the staff were extremely pleasant and offered me another room which I never took as it wasn't much better. The next morning I saw the owner and complained to him , he just shrugged his shoulders and couldn't care.
DO NOT stay at this place!!!

I hereby want to inform you that Villa Verdi is currently being completely refurbished, this to be completed end of June 2008.

Furthermore we are opening a brand new African Lounge Restaurant at Villa Verdi.

By completion Villa Verdi will definitely be one of the most luxury guesthouses in Windhoek, rate is also not increasing resulting thus in the best value for money in the city!

When we arrived we were shown to a room that can only be described as a subterranean dungeon and outside of the properties security fence. As we could not get the light and fan to function at the same time and it was extremely hot I enquired of Reception if we could change rooms. The reply was the hotel was fully booked – however someone from Maintenance would check the fitting. Maintenance arrived and confirmed, eventually, that there appeared to be a fault and “someone” would fix it tomorrow. I passed this information back to Reception and requested a solution – and suddenly a room in a fully booked hotel was available. This room was in a slightly better condition than the previous but was still quite shabby. Also it was in a service corridor, facing the main road and sandwiched between the lounge bar and the kitchen / laundry area. We also realized, too late in the evening, that there were no curtains.

A good nights sleep was not possible due to considerable noise from the road outside, both from vehicular and pedestrian traffic, and almost constant activity in the service corridor. At approx 0230 there was also a lot of noise from the pool area as apparently the owner’s son, and friends, decided on a late swim.

I must congratulate the author and photographer of the brochure and website for Villa Verdi as it appears extremely attractive – when in fact it is a pretty basic one ( or grudgingly two ) star hotel only suited to one nights accommodation at most.

When we provided feedback to our travel agent ( Greenlife Southern Africa ) and, on 13th MArch 2007, receeived thsi reply from them form Leading Lodges of Africa "Once again, we regret the inconvenience occasioned to your clients, and to this end would hereby like to offer a refund to them. Our Finance Department will shortly issue a credit note to this effect.".

As of today 14th MAy we have receievd absolutely nothing
