“Lion farm? Really?”
Reviewed May 29, 2014 via mobile

Upon arrival we asked how many lions are on the farm as we wanted to do a tour, the answer: none! Disappointment.

We had something to drink, coffee is revolting to say the least and then continued on. Give it a miss.

“Very nice place”
Reviewed May 20, 2014

Another positive surprise during our African tour. Recommended by our hotel tour agent as half day trip gave excellent supplement to previous game experience in Chobe National Park.
Located close to Windhoek with wonderful scenery, lunch (interesting choice of dishes) served in outdoor bar facing greenery with some animals, birds.
Game drive led by experienced and passionate guide with an encounter of masses of antelopes, giraffes, ostriches, zebras. Rhino was not available, efficiently hidden that day. Good reason to come again.

We booked a game drive at Okapuka, on a Sunday afternoon. We arrived early and felt a bit out of place, as most of the people were there to dine for Sunday brunch. We weren't offered an area to wait and were left on our own in the entranceway in the sun and heat until our meeting time to board the "jeep". In this area, there is signage where specific guidelines are displayed while on game drives, including cell phone use and conduct. We would be in jeep #2, along with many many others. 13 in total. Petral, our guide and driver introduced herself. We chose our seats in the back of the jeep. Wrong!!! Within the first five minutes, the person sitting next to us, their cell phone rang, and it was non-stop. Either receiving or initiating phone calls. The person in front if me, took photos and video with his iPad leaning out of the jeep, so every photo I took, included an iPad.
We were extremely disappointed in that, not only did Petral not go over any guidelines before heading out on the game drive, nor did she ask the person to stop using the cell phone. We barely heard any explanation from Petral, as most of the people in the jeep talked while looking at the game. Others were trying to call the animals to come closer to the jeep.
The whole experience was disappointing, and the jeep felt crowded and uncomfortable. I would not recommend to go to Okapuka on a game drive on the weekend, as they are busy on the ranch with other activities. It seemed very commercial and impersonal. Maybe it is better during the week.
On a positive note, Okapuka is conveniently located and is close to Windhoek. It is only about 25 minutes from the city, and there is a variety of game to be seen.

“Immaculate place - great Safari - close to Windhoek”
Reviewed August 1, 2013

I had one day free in Windhoek and asked the hotel to recommend somewhere for a safari. It cost me 350N$ each direction to get to Okapuka but it was worth it.
The safari jeep ride cost 210N$ and we saw loads of animals really close up. Rhinos, warthogs, Giraffes, Antelopes, Crocodiles etc
Very informative driver with lots of local knowledge.
I followed up with a meal and a beer - really relaxing atmosphere
The small shop had a good selection of memorabilia - I spent some cash there too.

“Unwelcome feeling”
Reviewed May 20, 2013

I met up with my friend and her family from Australia, having dinner. Besides the "Normal" poor Namibian customer service, which we tolerated, the manager on duty was extremely unprofessional and unfriendly towards the end of the evening. We were the last customers in the restaurant and were informed that the staff were on they way back to Windhoek so we should finish our drinks and go because once the staff have left we will not be able to leave the ranch. It was an elder German lady who obviously didn`t know how to handle customers. It was very disappointing to end our visit so abruptly. In my opinion bad service and the customer were not a priority.
