“Golf... That's about the best I can say”
Reviewed July 8, 2012

I had been advised by a former colleague that this was the best place to stay in Windhoek. If that is the case then I feel sorry for visitors to this city. I've since disappeared camping and have found that much more enjoyable. I personally think the country club is very expensive, especially if you indulge in breakfast, dinner or some wine, but even the base rate is not cheap for what it is. I haven't stayed in any other hotels in Namibia so I don't have much to compare it to, but I would not recommend this at all. I'd gamble on finding somewhere else.

Room Tip: Best tip to find the best room is stay somewhere else.

I have stayed there on two ocassions in the past two months. The service is good and the stay verry pleasant for a week end. The breakfast was a bit expensive though especially if it is not included in the room rate. But otherwise it is my residence of choice in Windhoek and I am making it a monthly port of call.

Room Tip: A room overlooking the swimming pool is quite nice especialy on the smoke free floor on the western...

The Country Club used to be the best place to stay in Windhoek bar none. True, it is not very close to the city centre. True, it is poorly signposted. And true, until recently there was not much competition. So perhaps it rested on its laurels. But even so, that is no excuse for cheap lumpy pillows. Or a room where the heating did not work (in June - and that is midwinter in Namibia for all you northern hemisphere readers). Or a shower where water does not so much gush as dribble.

The buffet remains very good - they will cook your fish and meat in front of you on the griddle and to your liking - and the wine list is highly competent and keenly priced. But the Country Club is no longer a no-brainer for the discerning visitor to Windhoek.

Nice gardens and pool area, the hotel in general is fine, but could use a little face lift.

I have made two nice experiences at the Country Club. The first was a buffet dinner with about 20 other guests at a long table at their restaurant. The food was absolutely ok for a buffet. Some of it is freshly prepared in front of you, including a selection of meats and sea food. The service is attentive and very friendly.
The second, even nicer experience, was a round on the golf course. Very well maintained, interesting layout, a pleasure to play.
I would never book a room there, though. It iis too far out of town, so I can not comment on this part of the resort...

Stayed in this hotel for five days and it is very nice, comfortable, clean and modern rooms, excellent breakfast buffets, large flat screens in the hotel, friendly and accommodating staff, and free WiFi. The gym was also nice, the grounds are large and beautiful, and the beds are very comfortable.

The negatives on this hotel - limited TV channels, very far from town (no problem for us since we were managing a conference at the hotel), staff left all of the doors of the hotel open at night (winter time now in Namibia) and left all of the rooms cold, air cons/heaters did not really work, WiFi passwords expired every 6 hours, so had to get new ones.

All in all, a good hotel but if you are looking to stay closer to town there are better options.

The Hotel was an older premises that requires maintenance. The Hotel has a dark & dingy casino that is great if you like casinos that smell like a stale ashtray, the smoke in the casino was like an indoor fog. The Club had a great little golf course but the Golf staff don't really want anyone else on the course but their members.
A good place to stay for 1 night before leaving.
