The hotel and shopping complex are undergoing major renovation and construction. We only stayed two of the three nights we booked because of the noise. While on the surface it looks like a very modern and stylish hotel, the underlying service and accommodations are very much sub-standard. for example, the elevator they told us to use looked brand new, but it must not have been programmed correctly because it would not stop at floor 3. Several times we had to hike from the 4th floor because it kept by-passing the stop. Also, just outside our room was a door marked "staff only." This door was kept closed all day long, but after 10PM, it was open and closed loudly several times. We complained after the first night, but the practice continued the second night which prompted us to find other accommodations. The front desk staff was curt, and the rest of the staff seemed either obtuse or apathetic. Certainly it was not what was advertised.
The breakfast was a standard buffet, and dinner wasn't much more impressive. The location was pretty perfect for walking around the city center, and it felt much safer than other African cities. Overall, it is a serious stretch to call this a luxury accommodation. It might be fine for a business trip, but not a vacation or weekend away. Certainly not worth the price tag.More
