“Great Staging Location”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

My husband and I stayed at Chameleon as we prepared to take a road trip across Namibia and then again as we were leaving the country. Both stays were very comfortable. The backpacker has done a great job decorating the rooms, although the rooms were cold and not very well lit. The kitchen area was large, but was missing some essential items. The staff at the reception desk were very helpful and professional. We had the majority of our trip planned before we arrived, but they were able to give us some tips for our drive across the country. The location was good, it was just a short walk to the downtown area full of shops and restaurants. I would stay here again.

Hi Rebecca, Thanks for the positive and constructive feedback. I will definitely look into the kitchen items and bring that back up to scratch, a lot of the items are "borrowed" and not returned, so we will check more often. We are also now replacing all our energy saving bulbs with more expensive LED bulbs which also throw out a lot more light. Like most Windhoek properties, we have no heating as we have such a short winter, but do provide extra blankets in every room for the few nights it gets "chilly". Hope to see you back again one day - Jackie

First time in Namibia my brother and I needed a great hostel in Windhoek as well as a safari outfit we could trust would give us the adventure of a lifetime. We found both in Chameleon. In fact, we even had an airport transfer by Chameleon. Our first week in Namibia (before heading to Botswana) we put all our eggs in the Chameleon 'basket' so to speak and I'm glad we did. The hostel is located in the heart of Windhoek, is clean, safe, has great service and offers excellent value for money. The staff made our stay very personable and comfortable. Our Etosha and Swakopmund Safari left from Chameleon and was run by Chameleon. The itinerary was perfect and the guides were fantastic. I highly recommend Chameleon hostel and Chameleon safari for anyone wanting a great experience in Namibia.

We stayed here at the start of
our holiday and found it a good place to unwind. The rooms were spacious, the staff were helpful and the food was fine. A good Italian restaurant just near -by was an added bonus.

You know it's a good spot when all the guides are staying there. This place feels like a communal home--very friendly people including some who are living there long term such as guides, and everyone cooking or grilling food each night. If you're in Windhoek to book NWR it's a short, nice walk to the office. At $350, the standard rooms have private baths and are great value. The staff are very helpful and nice. Will absolutely stay here again when in Windhoek.

Room Tip: If you want to splurge a bit as a couple the luxury room Loverbird#2 is absolutely adorable and has...

Excellent value for your money: Clean, comfortable rooms that are better than in most hotels, wlan and computer use, a fully equipped kitchen, secure parking, no curfews, a nice pool and a good bar, great, big lounging areas inside and outside - in all over Africa, Asia, Europe or Latin America we've seldom spent time at a better Backpacker Hotel! Additionnally, there are cool cafes and craft markets around, and if you dont have your own car or want to book tours, they seem to offer everything there possibly is. Not to forget, the staff is extremely friendly with a cool vibe - they are there for you if you need them and leave you be if that's what you want. We would recommend it to anybody - it deserves it, and staying there will be a great experience for anybody.
