“Feeling home in Africa”
Reviewed June 2, 2012

My boyfriend and I started our trip to Nambia spending five days in Kuzikus, having heard about it from friends previously been there and having enjoyed the experience a lot.
We couldn't be happier of this choice!
Kuzikus is a family run place and you can feel this in everything. The general manager shares meals with guests, telling about his and his family's experciences in wild Africa. The schedule of activities is flexible and discussed with guests according to everyone's wishes. You really feel that you're taken care of and at the end of the stay it feels like beeing with friends.
Rooms are nice and decorated truly "African style" with leathers and other items being hunted by the owner or his family, which I liked as it makes the style authentic.
The farm is 10k hectards big and there is so much to do and see! We went out every afternoon with a 4x4 for animals tracking, and a couple of time horse riding - which I loved as you really feel a part of the sorrounding nature. Also we went on tracks recognition with local people and to visit the biological research camp that the farm hosts. We ended up not spending much time around the pool !, althouhg it's nice to chill out for a couple of hours.
One more word about food - we loved it ! Mostly game meat from the farm, super tasty and far from anything we eat in Europe. Lunch is served outside and dinner in a nice separated room with fireplace. Also a fire is lit up outside for guest to enjoy drinks before dinner.
To sum up we found our stay authentic and magical. It's a good start when travelling around Namibia.
Will definitely try to go back!

We spent 3 nights in kuzikus on our way to KTP and we considered it to be a good idea.
First it took us serveral hours from windhoek to arrive on kuzikus. Nobody was at the entrance although people knew we would arrive and it was already dark. The rooms are really simple with the charme of an oldfashioned farm. The amount of water that came out of the shower was enough to brush your teeth. The owners treat their employes like slaves and in the living room you can find a sitting ensemble made from elephant leather. Huge elephants teeth are decorated around. Everywhere you will find bones of elephants and other trophys from hunting safaris.
The food was so far good and the safaris offered on the farm where nice.
But the price is for such an experience definitely exorbitant high. We paid 110 EUR per Person excluded drinks.

It should have only taken 2 and half hours to get from Windhoek to Kuzikus if you travelled with a taxi company booked buy us I would like you know we have now changed the company that we deal with and the trip from Windhoek should be max 3 hours depending on road conditions i.e how many animals are on it or likely to run across and if it has rained recently.
The gates are not manned here nor are they locked If you came in a taxi they should have driven you directly to the main building here where somebody should have been waiting for your arrival apologies if this was not the case.
If you drove yourself I regret to say the gates are not manned and we often dont get an arrival time from our guests but once we hear the car on time we try our best to greet them promptly.I apologizes again if we where not on time to greet you.
In regards to the showers I know to what you refer. If the shower heads get blocked by limescale they dont flow right and if this goes unchecked this can happen I am double checking this myself as I know what a good shower is worth while travelling.
The Staff are now actually under new management.I am unsure of what you mean by treated like slaves as we aim to treat all our staff the best we can.We are very close with them and there families, they have work and lived here for many years. As far as we know and from what the staff tell us they are very happy here but of course there is always room for improvement so we will as always make very sure none of our staff our being treated unfairly.
The trophies and elephant tusks are from the history of Kuzikus and are very important to us we dont hunt for trophies nor do we allow trophy hunting on our farm these items are from an older time in Africa and will always have a place here even if they are out of fashion. It would be a shame to throw them away. This hunting history no matter how grim is the foundation of this place and it wouldn't be a Wildlife Reserve without it.Here on Kuzikus we want to show the guests the real Africa and not just a touristic spot where you are only shown what they want you to see.
We also do alot of research here on all our animals from the insects to the Rhino's we have even have a research camp for this purpose.
They whole point of Kuzikus is to sustain and maintain the area for the wildlife including the Black Rhino and also educate people in understanding more about biodiversity this is reflected in the price.

I am very sorry if you did not enjoy your stay here with us it very much saddens us to hear this and we will take into account all you have said and thank you for your honesty .

Having travelled to game reserves in other parts of Africa before, Kuzikus was a delightful and new safari experience which I thoroughly enjoyed. The family run business provided excellent hospitality standards, and ultimately a personal touch for all guests- making my trip bespoke and really special.

The reserve not only has amazing game viewing opporunities, you also have the chance to drive, walk, or even horse ride out amongst the game and the endangered black rhino they have as part of their conservation scheme. The reserve is unique in its drive to really get visitors involved with understanding the wildlife, conservation, and the 'real African' bush. Each day can be tailored to suit your needs or interest with a wide variety of activities, and the hosts are friendly & extremely knowledgable about Africa and the area. The accommodation and food was also to very high standards.

It is a reserve I will certainly visit again, and would recommend it not just to families, but any individuals or friends who want to visit Afrca.
