This Lodge was such a breath of fresh air! Only 1.5 hrs north of the capital, you're suddenly in a wilderness oasis. Boutique and family run, the Lodge's scale was intimate, the staff friendly and relaxed, the delicious food cooked by chef Sara always hit the spot, and there were activities to suit the whole family (from the elderly in laws down to the kids). We ended up staying over a week! Couldn't get enough of the game drives, the fascinating chats with lively and hugely knowledgeable owner Eric, sundowners (evening drinks) by the pool, even fell in love with the two adorable farm dogs Ruby and Shakes.
This Lodge is unlike the usual, impersonal cookie-cutter experience of other lodges around Southern Africa; it's not large or frenetic, the decor is warm, homely and unpretentious, the owners extremely approachable, and the variety of what to see on the large reserve so satisfying. Each day was a new adventure and we couldn't wait to explore. It felt like we were living our own version of the British series "Wild at Heart" - complete with the thrills of coming into close range with wild animals on occasion (eg during Crocodile feeding time!)
Thoroughly recommend Leopard Lodge as a very affordable family holiday, a couples romantic getaway, Safari adventure, relaxation retreat - it's so quiet and peaceful there- or even for a sustainable and humane hunting trip (we are vegetarian but approved of the practices used at Leopard Lodge- game is carefully selected so as not to tamper with the herds' integrity and all meat is used to sustain the Lodge and any captive breeding animals like the Cheetahs).
This was definitely the best part of our world trip, would recommend it to anyone who wants a real up close and personal African experience!
