The Garden is as good maintained as can be asked for on the allowed budget. It has a lot more potential. Check the opening times to visit. Unusual for a botanical garden it is closed on weekends

Just outside the main CBD area of Windhoek, the gardens are free of entrance charges and a nice quite spot for a walk. The garden open Monday to Friday, from 8h00 until 17h00 plus every first Saturday of the month from 8:00 to 11:00.
A number of self guided walking trails lead through the garden. The most common woody plants are labelled and bird and plant lists are available at Reception. The garden boasts one of the densest stands of the Windhoek Aloe (Aloe littoralis), the symbol of the city of Windhoek.

We were searching where to go to spend a few hours in Windhoek or just around. Dan Viljoen nature reserve was closed, we had already visited the craft center, we didn't want to go for a long drive and we didn't feel like walking in a mall... What next? The botanical garden!
Don't expect much, just enjoy what it has to offer.
Well maintained, but still a bit wild. Quite small, but big enough to walk an hour or two. Not a lot of signs on plants, but selected information to keep you interested and to leave the place a bit more "clever". No restaurant, but tables if you want to bring your food.
We found this place very relaxing and refreshing. Our baby enjoyed the walk.
Not to be missed if you have some free time in Windhoek.
