We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights after flying in from Johannesburg. We took a taxi from the Airport and paid ZAR 280 for 2 persons for the ride to the hotel.
The hotel is of Hilton’s international standard, strategically located near the Independence Avenue, the centre of the city’s activities. There could not be a better location than this.
We stayed on the 5th floor and our room was perfect, as can be seen from the photos we have posted here. We agree with all the previous reviews about the high standards of the room and the great views from the rooftop, so, we will not repeat them again.
Our only complaint is against one of the staff, and unfortunately, we have to air our concerns here as there is no other forum for us to do, to ensure that this issue comes to the attention of the person in charge and not deleted and sent to ‘trash’ should we address it as a general email to the hotel.
On our final day at the hotel, we have asked the front desk staff by the name of Anna Massauwe, to assist us in booking a table at and a taxi to the famous Joe’s Beer House Restaurant. She assured us all will be arranged and we should just come down to the lobby at our appointed time in the evening and the taxi will be there for us....We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights after flying in from Johannesburg. On our final day at the hotel, we have asked the front desk staff by the name of Anna Massauwe, to assist us in booking a table at and a taxi to the famous Joe’s Beer House Restaurant. She assured us all will be arranged and we should just come down to the lobby at our appointed time in the evening and the taxi will be there for us. When we came down in the evening, we found out that she had booked for us a taxi to go to a restaurant called O Portuga instead!! We told her off for doing so and due to her doing, when we finally arrived at Joe’s without a booking, we had to wait for about an hour for a table and another 30 minutes for our food!!
We are not sure whether this Ms Massauwe gets a commission for referring guests to O Portuga but for a hotel of Hilton’s standard, we did not expect this kind of behaviour from their staff! This was not a mere oversight and there was no language problem in our communication with her. We communicated with her in English, which she was fluent in, and “Joe’s Beer House” sounds VERY different from “O Portuga”. There could not be any mistake in that.
We were not able to channel our complaint to the hotel’s management at that time as it was very late by the time we finally returned to the hotel and we had to check out early the following day. We hope the hotel will look into this serious misconduct of one of their staff so that incidents like this do not happen to other guests in the future.
Other than this unfortunate incident, we enjoyed our stay at the hotel and will have no qualms in recommending it to other...More
