“The Executive Lounge and its staff really make this place - without them it's just so-so...”
Reviewed July 9, 2012

I stayed at the Hilton while in Windhoek on business. It's a very nice new hotel - everything you expect of a five star place in terms of facilities - so it all looks very stylish and luxurious...

The service level at the hotel is inconsistent, however.

I give them a five based on the service in the executive lounge and the staff that work in the lounge (also the concierge is excellent and the reception service is ok). These are the people I mainly dealt with - they get a five - everyone else doesn't deserve that, but as I said I didn't really deal with everyone else too much...

The executive lounge is on the top floor (along with a pool and related bar). It has a private reception desk and staff. The staff in the lounge are excellent.... there is no other word...
They remember your name, what you like to eat or drink, they are welcoming, attentive, hospitable and can do most things for you without you having to deal with the public reception desk. They serve cocktails and some light food complimentary in the lounge every evening, and they also do breakfast there - so if you go to this hotel you should definitely get an executive room so you have lounge access.

The service in the hotels public restaurants and bars is not good.....
On my first morning, I went down to the main restaurant for breakfast - it was about 8:45am.
While there were ample staff on duty, many of the tables were dirty - they had been occupied and not reset. The breakfast was a buffet setup laid out in front of an open kitchen. I was very surprised to find that the buffet line was out of scrambled eggs and sausages - plus some other things.... at first I thought i had my time wrong and they must be closing for the day!!
There were two cooks in the kitchen but the entire time I was there I don't think those dishes were replenished....
A restaurant manager was nowhere in sight and the staff seemed mainly occupied with socializing with one another....

I had a similar experience with the hotel's 'sports bar' one evening. The service was inattentive and slow despite their being ample people on duty....

Needless to say I didn't really go to the hotels main restaurants or public bars after those experiences!!

Anyway, as I said, get an executive room, use the executive lounge facilities and rely on the employees there and you will have a fine time - I recommend the hotel (provided you have the executive room).

Just opened, the Hilton in Windhoek, capital city of Namibia and the major international airport hub for this fascinating country in southwest Africa, provides travelers with an oasis of "western" style hotel including superb accommodations, wine bar/restaurants, lap pool and fitness facilities, and wonderful staff.

This hotel beats any in Windhoek and IS the hotel of choice for tourists, business people and locals. Well set out, sharp design, staff willing to assist, efficiently run, not sterile, nice atmosphere, conveniently and centrally located. Reasonable rates, booking made online.

Arrival - easy, efficient check-in, nice welcome, good assistance with hire vehicle and parking, explanation of where breakfast is served, location of the sports bar, where the lifts were, discussion as to what floor level our room was and our intended checkout time.

Accommodation - large and spacious room, queen size bed, comfy, nice linen, separate bath, shower, loo and washbasin area, hair dryer, power points for recharging, desk with chair, occasional chair, large flat screen TV, minibar (well stocked), safe, coffee/tea facilities

Food - Dinner was offered in the Ekipa Restaurant either al a carte (limited and small menu with grill options also) or the buffet. We chose the buffet which was really good quality and great selection. Glance at the buffet before deciding, you should not be disappointed. Wine list had a good range available. Staff during dinner were attentive, friendly, and kept themselves busy. Breakfast is served in the same location as the Ekipa Restaurant. Food quality and buffet selection was good but during our visit we experienced sleepy, sloppy service - harmless though (its just breakfast really!) and would not deter us from recommending this hotel to others.

Reservations - Book directly with hotel via website, online, instant confirmation, secure credit card system, great prices and options offered.

Facilities - comfortable lounge areas on the ground level (indoor and outdoor), shade provided outside. Toilet facilities on the ground and mezzanine level. Small shop (cigarettes, postcards, lollies) on mezzanine level near lifts. Curio shop on ground level with good selection of gifts, jewellery, t-shirts cds etc and staff were efficient here. Sports bar had a great vibe, TV screens, staff were attentive, also comfy indoor and outdoor seating (plus heaters). A separate wine cellar room is near the sports bar and looked well stocked and intimate, would suit private meetings or functions.

Best - dinner buffet (quality of food and service received), sports bar (atmosphere and service received) and the room overall. Check-out was 12.00pm - fantastic! The night manager Pieter went above and beyond to deliver a special dessert platter to us, with a lovely message - thank you!

Improvements - lack of rubbish bins in room (we only had one tiny bin in the actual loo area) and offer complimentary water for cautious tourists.

Verdict - The only hotel to stay at in Windhoek!

I stayed here in May and was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the hotel. Rooms are brilliant and very modern with everything you need and comfortable beds. Since I only spent a night on business I didn't eat in the restaurants but I did meet people for drinks at the Sky Bar at the top of the hotel which has fantastic views over Windhoek and definitely the place for sundowners. The gym is well equipped and the executive bar and meeting area is well kitted out. Service was very good and the staff are friendly.

The rates were very reasonable when compared to other hotels in the area which are far older, and it will definitely be my hotel of choice in Windhoek. I would rate it as in the Top 5 hotels on the African continent.

Room Tip: Upgrade to executive floor rooms and you will have automatic access to the executive lounge which ha...

My son was in a car accident in Namibia and had to stay at the hotel for one night with an injured neck after being released from hospital before I could get out to be with him.

The duty manager said to him that he would check regularly that all was OK and then he duly did this - every two hours. We did not ask for this, it was on his initiative.

That is truly thinking of the customer. Well done.

I stayed for one night in windhoek and can say that i would stay there again. The best hotel in Windhoek and miles ahead than the rest.
The property is new and the rooms are spacious. The fittings and furnishings are world-class and so are the toiletries. And the views from the room and the hotel roof-top are lovely.
However, the check-in was a bit of a disappointment and felt that it could improve a lot and hence the 4 star rating.

Room Tip: Make sure you book the top floor rooms and carry exercise gear to make good use of the gym.
