“Helpful and accommodating”

Apart from the accommodation being convenient, clean and convenient as described by other reviewers, we are most grateful to Schalk for his help and advice during the time we struggled with vehicle issues. When we complete those portions of our trip which we weren't able to do this time round, we would like to stay at Puccini again.

This place was great! Not only are the rooms comfortable and spacious (the bathrooms are enormous), but the grounds and garden are very relaxing...a little refuge in Windhoek! The breakfast was very good as well. Parking is secure and the guesthouse is very well located to great restaurants like the Namibian Institute for Culinary Arts (NICE) and a few malls for shopping. The owner, Schalk, was so gracious and helpful, providing us with travel advice, directions, and he even made sure to send along a forgotten item with some guests to his other guesthouse in Swakopmund. And all of this luxury and service came with such an affordable price tag. Thanks to Puccini for such a great stay. I can't recommend this place enough!!

I had a pleasant stay at the Puccini house. The rooms were comfortable, modern, and large, the staff was very friendly, and the cold breakfast was sufficient (cereals, toast, cake, cheese, fruit, yoghurt, coffee etc.). The guesthouse is also only a 10 min walk from the heart of Windoek (Independence Avenue). If you are deciding to stay at a guesthouse in Windoek, definitely consider the Puccini house.

this is one of the best places I've been hosted in windhoeck. Pucini staff is very warm, rooms are spatious and breackfast is very complete. it's quite close to the center and to several restaurants , malls and shops. indeed an ace.

We needed an accommodation for few nights and we decided to try the Puccini house. Location is quite near the center and quality/price ratio is excellent. The courtyard is lovely and suitable for sitting long in the evening chatting with fellow travellers. Rooms are clean and comfortable, maybe a bit cold during the night though, but that is a common problem in Namibia during the winter. The surrounding neighborhood is a bit rough, and I recommend using a taxi or your own vehicle when coming and going. That's actually part of reality of Windhoek, so you can't blame Puccini house for that. Service is friendly and efficient, breakfast is good and as a bonus there's washing machine (coin operated) for guests to use. All in all Puccini House is perfect for a traveller who likes good quality and small budget!

I've stayed at Puccini a half-dozen times when working in Windhoek over the past five years, sometimes for weeks on end, and have never regretted it. I enjoy the atmosphere--laid back, and not noisy like the better-known backpackers I've occasionally stayed at in the city. This is not a party spot.

Puccini seems to cater more to the budget/family tourist crowd (ie, not backpackers, but not luxury guesthouse, either), as well as the odd tour group and a few longer-term visitors (volunteers, students, researchers). I've met any number of friendly sorts in the lounge by the fire or outside in the garden; people always seem up for a chat or an excursion to a restaurant or bar (NICE, just up the street, is good for this).

The site is secure, and located in easy walking distance of downtown (I'd say it's 5-10 minutes to the supermarket, 15-20 to Zoo Park). The owner and staff are very friendly and helpful, and lay on a good spread for breakfast. The guest kitchen isn't bad, either: plenty of storage, and seems about the right size for the number of guests making use of it.

My one complaint is that it gets very cold in the winter, which occasionally keeps me up. This isn't just an issue with Puccini, though: it's to do with Namibian standards of insulation and central heating (ie, none), and it's a problem I've had at other hostels in Windhoek. June seems to be the worst for this. The owner knows, though, and has a supply of extra blankets and space heaters on hand.

This is the spot in Windhoek I recommend to friends and colleagues, unless they are looking for absolute rock-bottom prices (and dorms) or a backpacker/partying experience.

I stayed here for almost a week in May with a group of colleagues. We thought the Puccini House was a lovely guest house. There are a variety of rooms that are set around an open area with a small pool and several different places to sit and relax, both inside and in a porch. These rooms include fairly fancy en suite rooms, to basic "student" rooms, where you have to go outside and down the path to take a shower. They also have quad rooms. We had our own laptops, so bought the wifi cards, rather than using the computer there. There is a fairly substantial continental breakfast in the morning with excellent coffee. We didn't use the kitchen, except for making ourselves tea, but there seemed to be plenty of room to self-cater. They also have a washing machine that is available for use. Puccini House is only a few blocks from town in a safe area, so we walked into town for dinner, or ordered pizza. They also have an "honour bar", where you can order beers and soft drinks, and a book exchange. The owner is very helpful and will arrange meals, taxis, tours, or whatever you want (not so surly! He's a nice guy) and the rest of staff were great too. Next time I am in Windhoek, I will definitely stay at Puccini House again.
