These accomodations were recommended by the agency that set up our Namibia trip, Cardboard Box, and were a delightful way to begin our trip. We were here May 2-3. This review will sound negative, pointing out mostly poor features of this establishment, but I would like to say upfront that our stay was very, very pleasant and none of these problems took away from our enjoyment of the hotel or our experience.

Parking was limited and the parking area was small making turn arounds a bit longer than usual. Rooms were found by going up stairs that were low and long, and easy to negotiate, so less cumbersome if you carried heavy luggage. No elevators. All rooms had a connected outside veranda with a view towards the hills on the other side of the small valley in which Onganga is located. These might be a problem if there were smokers on the same level and the wind was blowing from them to you. All rooms were entered through this veranda so if one had a room at the one end from which folks entered, you could have people walking back and forth while you were outside enjoying the view or etc.

Rooms themselves were excellent though a bit small. The pool was also small. The only real complaint was the on-site restaurant which was a bit slow in service, but the food was tasty.
As other folks have mentioned the gate which was locked and required the on-site manager to open when you wanted to enter or leave.

Onganga is located in a small neighborhood at the base of Avis Dam and Lake, and is an easy and enjoyable walk, even if there is a small entrance fee to pay at the park itself. As birders, we found the entire area very good. I didn't see any nearby restaurants, but we didn't look very hard. The "real" town of Windhoek is only about 5-7 minutes away by car, .but because you are separated by a small set of hills from the main part of town the neighborhood was fairly quiet. The airport is nowhere close to Windhoek being about a 30-40 minute ride, but Onganga is closer than most city hotels to the airport making it a gentle first stop, if you don't like the hustle and bustle of a city after traveling by plane.

Overall, quite a pleasant stay here.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the far end of each row of rooms if you don't want to have other folks trampin...

Our party of three stayed at Ongana going thru Windhoek on the way to and back from the Caprivi Strip. Clean, quiet, secure and comfortable. Convenient to both the domestic and international airports. Had drinks and dinner twice in the little bar and restaurant. Very good both times. Pool area is small but very nice for a quiet afternoon.

My wife and I stayed here on a brief overnight stop in mid-September 2012. It was a good choice for a quick visit, and we would've enjoyed a longer stay.

Our travel agent (Bonita @ go2africa.com) had suggested this hotel as a good waypoint between Windhoek and Sossusvlei; we did return to Windhoek a week later, at the end of our Namibia adventures, and stayed in a more central location (Olive Grove Guest House).

We arrived at night, after flying into WDH, renting a car, and driving 45 minutes towards Windhoek. We were worried about driving at night in Namibia, but traffic was light and it was easy to find the hotel from the map on their website. Onganga is on the eastern outskirts of Windhoek (the airport side), and it would've been trickier for us to find hotels in the city center at night, so this turned out to be an ideal choice.

Our room was basic, clean, and bright. One minor problem: we couldn't find a spare electric outlet to recharge things, so we ended up unplugging a couple lamps. The breakfast was fine; there was a continental spread, and the friendly cook prepared eggs for us. We explored the property a bit before checking out. The pool looked nice (no time to try it out), and the upper half of the hotel grounds has views over the surrounding hills. I liked the many iron sculptures scattered around, and there is plenty of Onganga imagery (Onganga translates to "Guinea Fowl"). Blooming bottlebrush near the pool were attracting many colorful local birds…in five minutes a saw a couple species here I didn't see the rest of our trip in Namibia!

Just before we left, the manager was extremely helpful in suggesting an incredibly scenic route to drive to Sossusvlei – different than we had planned – which we really enjoyed. Onganga was also well placed for us to pick up a week's worth of road-trip supplies (water, snacks), as there was a supermarket conveniently nearby, on the way towards downtown Windhoek.

The Hubs and I stayed at the Hotel Pension Onganga with another couple, on the way back from a weeklong stay in Namibia. My husband had stayed at Onganga once before and he said it was worth a repeat trip. I'm so glad he talked us into it. The B&B is very secure, with a gate and a security guard. We didn't go to the bar, because we took a taxi into town, to go to Joe's. Very quiet at night and a wonderful full breakfast the next morning. Definitely nice having a clean comfortable room before heading on an international flight. Would definitely recommend taking a gander at their souvenirs by the front office, very reasonable pricing and a good selection.
