“Good lunch”
Reviewed October 18, 2013

I went to NICE for a lunch. I ordered lasagna with green salad for entree, cheesecake for dessert. No starter.

Entree: salad was lettuce (the green leafy part! fantastic!), tomatoes and a beetroot garnish with a lovely creamy and sour dressing. A crunchy potato slice as a garnish. The lasagna was fantastic. Full of flavour. Well seasoned. Parmesan on top. Lots of meat. I like a lasagna to have a strong tomato base bolognaise meat part. This meat part is not so much a tomato base though. But it tasted GOOD. Serving size was perfect. It leaves you longing for a dessert. Please note I am saying it lets you long for a dessert, not leave you hungry.

Dessert. Big slice of baked cheesecake. Topped with a berry compote that seamed to me out of that kitchen and not out of a bottle. Scoop of lovely vanilla ice cream. Garnish was half a fresh strawberry and slice of kiwi fruit drizzled with thick chocolatey chocolate sauce. The cheesecake was beautiful! Really the best you can get! I tend to be wary of cheesecakes especially baked. It seems to me that restaurants struggle to get the consistency right. This one was creamy, tasted lovely. Pairing with the compote and ice cream was beautiful. The compote cut through the cream and allow the flavour of the cheese and the sour of the berries to come through in a lovely duet. As a final thought, the cheesecake with the ice cream and the compote is a well thought out combination. The garnish just lifts it out more. Chef, thank you very very much! Go taste this one!!!

Had a coffee. Nice and fresh like I would expect from this type of restaurant.

Service was friendly. Waiters walk with straight backs. No slouching. Well dressed and groomed. They serve professionally.

The experience screamed of fine dining! From the elegant decor, the professional service, the beautiful food which taste just as good.

The bill was N$120.00. In my opinion, I paid that with a smile and left a generous tip!

I should have taken photos. Next time!

NICE you will see me again. Please don't mess up!

“Great sushi bar upstairs”
Reviewed October 17, 2013

The restaurant and bar are typically a popular hangout on the weekends. I always went upstairs where it is a bit quieter and there is a great sushi bar. There was always fresh tuna and other fresh catch.

“Must visit”
Reviewed September 21, 2013

This was a great find, extensive food and wine menu, several choices of seafood and game such as Kingclip, Kudu and Oryx our choices were delicious and well presented. The restaurant is out of the CBD and you need to catch a taxi there and back. Very nice surroundings and ambiance. Service was excellent. Very reasonable prices.

“Good overall, but can and should be better (3.5*)”
Reviewed September 14, 2013

Pleasant ambience but food did not quite live up to our [high] expectation.

We were surprised to find it open on a Sunday evening, but emails sent from the UK to enquire hadn't elicited a response and so we ended up booking a table through our [excellent] B&B. We didn't see much evidence of trainees amongst the front of house staff - quite possibly because it was a Sunday - although others may well have been preparing the all-important food in the kitchen...

Our starters were a respectable squid and prawn ragout on spaghetti but a rather ordinary trio of deep fried cheeses; mains [compared to offerings elsewhere] were a rather dry oryx steak with rice and a somewhat chewy 200g rump steak with a blue cheese dressing on pasta; and desserts were a nicely presented baked cheesecake (albeit with rock hard crumb casing) and a standard fruit salad.

We left a full tip as solicited on the bill (so it can't have been too bad!), but we did leave feeling that it could have been better, especially as the prices seemed relatively high.
