We locals either hate it or love it. But we all agree:. the food is good, the service friendly and not too slow, if one takes into consideration that they seat up to 300 persons at one time - and rather book a table. Do not think it feels crowded. That is the beauty of the place ; it has nooks and crannies and lapas and even a little room with a porch to seat everyone. The decor is great, unique and the time it took to put it together over years, appreciated by all. To really see the place, try to go for lunch, but for a real "lekker kuier" - ask your guide as this is not really translatable - the evenings are great. Why we love it, is that tourists as well as us locals feel at home here. It is a good mix for all. We suss out each other.

Though it may sound more like a cliche ,it is an a land mark place that lives up to its reputation in all the respects.unique surrounding ,in the evening a very boisterous crowd near the bar and very formal dinners in the inner sitting areas , decoration , though is still on same theme all around.variety of beer and drinks with food that is unique to Namibia, excellent service.

A unique atmosphere with good beer, good food and good service. A place to meet people from around the globe in an atmosphere very different to your normal pub.
As it is an open air venue can be a bit cold in winter, but still retains that unique attraction for many. In summer it is difficult to get a seat some days as it is a very popular venue.

Joe's Beerhouse has good food, great service, funky/interesting decor and ambience. You can order a variety of local game dishes, mainly meat-heavy as is common in Namibia, but a few vegetarian options are available as well. Have eaten there many times and never had a meal that wasn't cooked to perfection. Features indoor, outdoor and bar seating with open air access to the outside areas, and heating on rare occasions when it is cool. Facility and restrooms all very clean. Seating is at wooden benches and long tables, and you often share a table with strangers but it is always friendly. Despite the large number of tables, service is almost always speedy - the only time we have had problems is if we fiddled around with the original seating, by moving to a larger table, sitting at the bar first, things like that. The restaurant is a must-visit if you are from out of town - you should eat there at least once - but the food is quite rich and many longer-term residents have said they tire of the cuisine after a few visits.

I live in Windhoek and we always take our visitors to Joe's just because it is such a unique experience. Usually the food is excellent but I must say I was very disappointed when we ate there two weeks ago. I can say it was average at best. But, I suppose every chef needs a night off and even if the food were to remain average, it is still worth checking it out.
