I had the worst rump steak in a long time, and that after a one and a half hour wait. The waiter was good and friendly, but my food lousy. The steak was ordered medium to rare - it was 5mm thin, no pink left, cold and tasted like it came from a very old cow. Windhoek has better places to eat!

We ate at Joe’s Beerhouse on our last night in Namibia & it really ended the trip on a high note for us. We had luckily called ahead & made a reservation, because it was so busy when we went! Luckily we were seated immediately & after a quick look at the menu, decided pretty quickly what we wanted to eat.

The good things- the decently sized portions, reasonable prices(dinner for 2 adults, 2 kids with a couple of beers came to USD $40, which was great!), the ambience & the interesting décor- I spent a few minutes wondering around looking at all the unusual stuff & our boys loved the large Koi pond which kept them occupied while we waited for our food. Beyond the food, the décor, the lighting & the interesting stories inter-weaven in the menu made for an unforgettable evening;)

The not so good things- the long wait for our food, a very busy waitress ( she mentioned that she was the only one serving our part of the restaurant which was around 12-15 large tables) & the fact that they apparently made people share tables- I saw several couples come in & be seated at someone’s elses table-most people seemed ok with it after the initial look of surprise! Maybe not a bad thing, but if you are the type who likes your privacy, maybe not the best thing for you!

Still overall, a great place, good value for money & an absolute must if you are in Windhoek!

My wife and I visited Joe’s on our last evening in Windhoek in August 2012 and had a wonderful time. We shared an Eisbein which was very tasty and cooked to perfection. We also got to share a table with 2 people from the USA that we had never met before and this just added to the pleasant atmosphere. While the meal itself was a little pricey, the food was good and the time spent meeting new people was a definite plus. There are probably other places in Windhoek that offer better quality food, better value for money and smarter decor; but Joe’s is an experience not to be missed – even if you only go once.

We have been in Joe's Beerhouse in our first night in Windhoek and it is absolutely outstanding!
Food is great, had a full meal with starter, main course and dessert, which was really delicious. The place is looking nice, arranged with local furnishings and very big.
Price is very valuable for what you get.
If you stay in Windhoek, this is the place to be!
Therefore we have arranged to stay another night in Windhoek prior to our departure to get the chance to have dinner at Joe's again.

Joe's is by far the COOLEST bar I've ever been to. Great service, really cosy feel and very friendly staff. Food was exceptional, though was a bit upset as they didn't have croc or zebra on our first visit (at the start of our trip) and then on our second visit a few weeks later, they didn't have any again. (This was 2011, so might've changed menu etc since then). All in all we had a very enjoyable few nights, the atmosphere is fantastic. If you have a flight the next day then I would recommend staying away from Stroh rum, which the bartenders conveniently changed the name of each time we went to the bar so we'd order another. haha.
