The hotel was great, food was awesome, sadly the rasist colonial portugeuse type is plentyfull here.service from staff ok, 3rd world standard as they can not speak english. View awesome, bit expensive for what you get.

Room Tip: Sea view old main building.

It is a fantastic hotel, very elegant, fantastic pool, great breakfast and very nice terrace outside. Rooms and bathrooms are big and have everything to offer. Staff is helpful and very nice. I stayed there a whole week and found the place fantastic!

Our stay was ok. If you have to go to Maputo stay at Hotel Polana. If you don´t have to go there, don´t go. We were unfortunate enough to be robbed by armed local police, for not carrying our passports with us.

we arrived late and our booking has a misharp but finally we got the rooms outside the main hotel down the rooms facing the ocean with a promise after 3 days we will change to the main hotel
unfortunate on top of my room was renovation going on and having been working late hrs was a nightmare to be awoken early morning with noises hitting the walls
I complained to the reception and later that afternoon i was given the room in the main hotel
with many apologies from the management, not forgeting a wonderful waiter who knocked with a bottle of wine with a basket full of fruits from the management.
anyway our stay there was awesome and we had always come back, breakfast is 5star, beautifu swimming pool and spa
i would always recommend.

I had flown in from the UK via Jo'Berg and was more than a little tired.
At check in I was told I was being upgraded and the price was less than quoted.
I think I might have been very disappointed if I hadn't been upgraded if the new room was anything to go by. It was small and very dated. Though it was clean and the bed was comfortable.
Reception said they were arranging a shuttle to get me to the airport at a more convenient time
for my flight back to Jo'Berg. This failed to happen.
Room service was slow took an hour, and then the order was incomplete. That said the food was good.

Room Tip: If you get upgraded it would be nice to see both rooms so you can tell you are truly getting an up g...

I was quite impressed by this hotel. It is housed in a beautiful 1920s building that has been recently restored and is surrounded by large grounds (including a tennis court, swimming pool and nice sea view). Rooms are comfortable and reasonably sized. Good shower and wi-fi internet connection in the room and in most public areas. Check-in and restaurant staff are friendly and efficient. The only disappointment was in relation to the service in the Polana Bar, which was painfully slow...

This is a hotel that, on the outside, is beautiful. Public areas are well maintained and it is a comfortable place to stay. Interestingly, many of the rooms are separate from the main hotel building and require an outdoor walk and flights of stairs (no elevator available) to reach. In the US, this would probably be a 3.5 star hotel. Service was terrible. It is, for example, not reasonable to take 75 minutes to serve a lunch. My impression was that staff had not been adequately trained and that performance standards were quite lax. I attribute the poor service to management. I would expect much more from a Serena. We have stayed at a number of Serena hotels. This was clearly one of the best looking on the outside but worst functioning on the inside. There are quite a few luxury hotels being built in Maputo along the sea. As they open, I would expect to see business at the Polana Serena decline quickly. Yes, it is fun to stay at a grand hotel with vestiges of that grand hotel era feel. But, it is not fun to have to suffer the poor service offered at the hotel. By the way, the door to our balcony would not lock. None of the staff seemed to care about his so it stayed that way throughout our stay.
