The hotel is located in the city of Maputo. Beside the fact that the of town of Maputo is not well looked after hygenically due to lack of public trash bins this place is well maintained and I really had a great stay at this hotel. It is an older hotel, but that adds to the charm. The rooms were nice, the Suite was fantastic. The hotel made it their goal to make my stay completely relaxing and enjoyable. Small thing - an electrical convertor is required when using your electrical devices. Internet and bottled water was a treat. Very nice place.
I enjoyed the view of the bay from the hotel pool area and when walking to and from the dinning room.

The hotel is located in the city of Maputo. The town of Maputo is not a place you might want to walk around after dark, you can spend the evening at this hotel. It is an older hotel, but that adds to the charm. The rooms were nice, the Suite was fantastic. While traveling long distances, it is the small things that make such a difference. The hotel made it their goal to make my stay completely relaxing and enjoyable. Small thing - an electrical convertor is required when using your electrical devices. This hotel had a strip of outlets on the wall, each one different. Making it possible to use your device with out a convertor. Internet and bottled water was a treat. Very nice place.

Not a bad hotel, no hot water for three days is a bit much. Notification only came from management after three days. Food was not bad the Pastrami on Rye from room service menu was very good. I though the cost of the room an a Bed and Breakfast basis was a bit high.

Dear Sabieriverlodge

Thank you for taking the time to send your review. I’m terribly sorry about the hot water problems you experienced and our tardy notification. Our new heat pump was severely damaged and unfortunately our back up was simply not able to cope. The situation is now resolved . We’re very glad you enjoyed the food and apart from the hot water issue , your stay in general

We hope to welcome you back again in the future

Yours sincerely

I last stayed at the Cardoso a year ago, and found it much the way I left it. Last time around they forgot to pick me up at the airport, but this time they were there waiting. Also, now that the Polana has raised it rates, the Cardoso is more attractive within its price point. The breakfast is solid, the views from the seaside rooms are great, and the free internet worked well. The bed was also comfortable, although the pillows were too fat and hard, which made for a somewhat uncomfortable sleep.

On this trip, my luggage did not arrive with me, and the guest relations woman had a driver take me (for free) out to buy new clothes and also sent the driver to recover my bags once they arrived at the airport, both of which I appreciated.

Room Tip: Go seaside

I hate to write this review of the Cardoso. I've been coming here for years, but since my last trip, three years ago, the rooms and service have deteriorated to such an extent that I will never stay here again. The stately old building remains as beautiful as ever, with its white paint and mahogany woodwork. But the Cardoso has the stink of a property in which management has simply stopped investing and is reaping whatever profit it can from past laurels, before selling it and moving on.

The internet worked about 25% of my last stay, and then so slowly it was barely useful for email. *** If your business depends on the internet, go elsewhere.*** The guest rooms are worn and shabby, with bathroom tiles missing, mildewed grout, and chipped paint. The sheets in my room have holes in them. All the rooms on the first three floors are subject to the floor-shaking beat of the disco that denies guests any hope of sleep.

But the lack of investment in staff training and supervision is the saddest part of the experience. Space doesn't allow me to list the problems with the service, but a sample: when booking three weeks in advance for a room high up, I was given a ground-floor room at the parking level with diesel truck and disco noise all night long; when after 48 hours of hard travel, contemplating an important client meeting the next early morning, I asked for help pressing a suit and shirt only to be told "we don't do that, do it yourself." When ordering a simple sandwich, was sent the wrong food twice, delivered each time by a slovenly employee in dirty pants and an untucked shirt. When I asked about the internet problems I was told "no, it's working" even though every other guest I asked was having the same problems. I asked three times to have my room cleaned, to no avail. And each employee I dealt with was indolent at best, making it clear I was annoying them with my "complaints."

There are other good hotels in Moputo, at equivalent prices. Please look elsewhere.

Room Tip: Get one high up if you can to avoid noise from the parking lot and disco.

The Cardosa hotel is very pleasant, especially if you get a pool and sea-facing room. The room we stayed in had a lovely view and an open balcony. Free internet is available and a good breakfast. Quite centrally situated and within reasonable walking distance to the city centre and harbour (if you are a walker). The city itself is very dilapidated, buildings with peeling plaster, litter everywhere and mounds of rubbish all over. Pavements are difficult to walk on because of the holes everywhere, lifted cement tiles etc, plus used for parking. Strange anomaly between the fancy cars parked outside the dilapidated buildings. The area towards the Polana is, however, in much better condition. We were also confronted twice (in short succession) by police wanting a bribe, while driving in a car, belonging to a fellow traveller. Nonetheless, we enjoyed our 3 day stay in Maputo (of which one we spent on Inhaca Island). Interesting experience. Although you are constantly bugged by persistent hawkers, I felt very safe walking around.

Room Tip: Choose sea facing. In summer, might be some noise from the pool but the view of the bay is worth it.

This is a good business travel hotel. Rooms are comfortable and the showers having been recently renovated were great. The pool looks absolutely inviting with great views of the ocean. Food was good consisting of a buffet. Not really orientated towards couples or family stay this more a business hotel. The corridors are starting to show a bit of wear and even though I was on a non smoking floor there was the mell go smoke in the air.
