It has all the old world charm we were looking for in Maputo. We sat on the platform for about an hour. It was lovely and cool while it was boiling hot outside. It appears they are renovating the station, and there is a bar/restaurant there (that we walked into but didn't eat at) which is recommended by other reviews. But weirdly, there are no trains actually working!! I believe there is on train a day that visits the station. What a pity!

We learned that Eiffel designed the dome. It is a beautiful structure.

This station was used in the film "Blood Diamonds" starring Leonardo di Capirio. The architecture (like many buildings in Maputo) is beautiful as is the square in front of the station.

Very photogenic place. If you like old buildings from the past century, you'll love that one. The CFM logo appears everywhere in the station, just look around and you'll see it.
Watch the bell but don't try to touch it otherwise a police man with a very unfriendly face will come to you right away!
If you watched Blood Diamond you'll see that they use the station as the hotel where Di Caprio stayed in Sierra Leone ;)

Yes, you may feel the difference with the "socialist-age" concrete-built buildings around and it's a nice building, bringing you back to the colonialism times but ... there is not that much to see: it's a station.

You may take a couple of nice photos and maybe spot the people passing. Do not plan more than 1 hour
