During my last holiday I travelled to Mozambique and South Africa. The reason that I still am a little bit home sick for Maputo consists of the enormous amount of overwhelmingly sweet, helpful, ethousiastic and interested people that I met during my 9 days stay there. The reason that I went to Maputo was the fact that I wanted to organise a soccer tournament for children from the slumbs in Maputo on behalf of the Orange Kids Foundation, an organisation that aims to create a smile on the faces of children in developing countries by way of sports and games, of which I am a board member. The staff of The Quiet Corner Guest House appeared very involved and helpful in the organisation of the tournament. Especially Onesimo, one of the clerks, who, on the age of 21, is an English teacher and is setting up his own school for ICT, English courses and music education, showed a great sense of organisational talent and has arranged everything for us, from contacting the schools for the tournament, to arranging cooks from the slumbs to provide the lunch for the participants on the day of the tournament, to buying all the groceries needed for that day. We only brought the idea, he arranged everything from that point, very impressive! Also the owners of the guest house, an Italian man who is married with a Mozambiquan woman, are very sympathetic and warm people. We had a lot of pleasant conversations, and also they were really involved in the organisation of the tournament. On the day of the tournament they came by to watch, because they were so interested, very nice. I felt most welcome and at home from the first moment I stepped into the guest house until we left. During our stay of nine days we really built a personal relationship with all staff members, from the owners, the clerks, the cleaning ladies to the securty guy who takes care for safety of the guest house, 24/7. Furthermore, the rooms and sanitary facilitations are clean, there is a quiet and safe athmosphere, and breakfast is provided in the form of juice, bread, fruit, coffee, etc. The only points of attention for me would be the pricing, which I think is somewhat high compared to other locations we visited, and related to that, the quality of the breakfast facilities. I look with LOTS of positive memories back to my stay in Maputo, and the Quiet Corner Guest House definitely contributed to that! It was an unforgettable experience!:-)

Dear Yvonne,

I would like to thank both you and Arjan for taking the time of writing a review for us.

It’s nice and gratifying knowing of your warm gratitude for our job and we feel proud for sharing a bit of the great success gained by your philanthropic initiative!

P.S. I totally agree with you about prices! Even though we strive to keep our prices at a very competitive level, compared to other similar services in Maputo, as a matter of fact prices in Maputo are somewhat high compared to several other locations.

Let me add that we are working hard to offer customers better prices in the future by mean of scaling up our business.
Hopefully we will deserve a full score next time you guys will visit us :-)

Keep doing the good job!
All the best
Andrew

We stayed at The Quiet Corner voor 9 days while being in Maputo. The staff was great and talented. We were in Maputo to organise a soccer tournament for primairy schools. One of the staffmembers (Onesimo) even became our operational manager, as he was so enthousiastic about the project. We had a very pleasent stay of the guest house. Breakfast and cleaning was also very good.

Caveat: the price was rather high in comparison to our other sleeping venues.

We stayed with my family just one night in Maputo when we came back from our Mozambico tour. So, after 800 km we were very tired and we found The Quiet Corner the right place to restore us before to face the trip return to Italy. The owner Andrea and all the staff were very helpful. Also the fare was right to be at Maputo. If i come back to Maputo surely i will stop at The Quiet Corner.

Last June in my trip to East Asia I decided to go to Maputo. Absolutely surprised to the pricesof 4 star hotels so I had to pick a guest house instead a hotel. I was delighted with Quiet Corner. The owner, Italian born Andrea was very helpful in all questions. They provide a laptop anytime you need and give you as much informtion about Maputo as you require. They have a fast wi-fi in suite bathroom and some other are sharing a communal bathroom though cheaper.
Rooms are big enough and very clean. Some rooms are with a bathroom in suite and some others share a communal bathroom that is kept absolutely very clean. They provide a good breakfast and you can prepare yourself. The property is well protected by a 24 hours security guard. The place is not central just 20 minutes walking distance but to me who loves walk the situation was very good and far from the busy Maputo downtown. The accommodation in Maputo is terrible expensive and Quite Corner is still affordable.

We found it very difficult to find a decent clean place, with good customer service that wasn't super expensive. It seems in Maputo you are either paying way too much for a "5" star hotel or you have the backpackers, the rare exception is the guest house. If you are lucky enough to find this one available, it is great value. Simple but totally adequate, clean, and very friendly. The owner and staff went out of their way to make our trip smooth, taking time to give travel tips and suggestions along the way. It was great.

We stayed 3 nights and another night a bit later. Staff and management are exceptionally friendly and were of great help in terms of trip or restaurant advises. Thanks Andrea and colleagues (including receptionists and guards). The guesthouse itself is in a good state, the rooms and bathrooms are clean. A kitchen with cooking facilities and a fridge are available. This guesthouse is specifically suitable for business travellers and tourists with a car, as it is about 10-15 minutes drive away from tourist attractions. But still there are restaurants, ATMs, an internet café, fuel stations and a bar in walking distance.

Room Tip: On weekends choose a room on the backside of the house as there is a bar near by in front of the hou...
