“Get your treat of seafood”
Reviewed May 4, 2013

Fish Market in Maputo is highly recommended. The variety - and freshness - of fish and seafood is impressive in the small stalls in the market.. You make your choice of fish, shrimps (in all different sizes), octopus and calamares, and bargain a bit before you pay. Then you walk a few steps through the market into a small square where you have a number of small restaurant. All of them offering the same: to prepare your fish and seafood and serve it with sallad, rice and fried fries together with beer or wine. You can choose any of them but the waiters can be quite aggressive in trying to make you chose their restaurant. When you made your choice of restaurant and made your orders you can relax. You sip on your beer while waiting for the new grilled fish and seafood to arrive. And then - just enjoy. One thing though: the streets outside can be a bit rowdy at nights. So the best is to take a taxi there and arrange to be picked up.

“Fresh seafood”
Reviewed March 20, 2013

Not very clean. Could be better - something like in Thailand or South India - Kerala. Cooking is good though. Be sure to bargain and check the weight. People will try to sell you with tampered scale. Better to take your own weighing scale.

“Moz Fish Market”
Reviewed March 7, 2013 via mobile

Loved it, even though My eyes where bigger than the tummy. All sorts of fresh fish, lobsters, clams, squid, prawns, you name it, it's all there for you to choose and enjoy. They grill it for you right there and you eat it there, if you want to. A typical mozambiquean experience, for all tourists not to miss. Be open minded when the street traders start coming around to sell you stuff, but they do respect your, privacy. A must to EXPERIECE, GOOD FOOD, for sure.

“A bit much”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

This is a very touristy and expensive place that I find exhausting. I went once just to say I had done it. It is fun to pick your own fresh fish and carry it around to have it cooked for you, but I usually am not in the mood to bargain that hard when I'm hungry. We send our housekeeper down to buy the fish and cook it at home now, to avoid the mess but still get the great fresh fish there.
