There is an Arabian Nights feel to this little hotel, the strange warren of rooms in the basement - with a view from the corridor into the pool from below water level - the opulent seating around the pool itself, and from the restaurant, but the rooms are clean and spacious, well equipped, the breakfast they serve is excellent, and the location, near shopping and the embassies, couldn't be much better. We were delighted with our find.

Room Tip: Basement warren of rooms are daunting, but fine.

I stay in Maputo on a regular basis, usually in good hotels. The office in Maputo wanted to try ' something else' for me, so they booked Villa das Arabias. I was given a room in the basement and I was shocked when I entered the room: so dark and damp, really as in a basement. I asked for another room, but that wasn't available. When I finaly accustomed myself to the basement conditions I tried to get some sleep. Impossible, in the alley next to the small window some guys ( I guess they were some sort of security) took their basis, they were chatting and playing music all night.
Exhausted after a night without sleep I hoped to find a good breakfast. Unfortunately I had to beg for attention and only got a few pieces of bread and some juice. When I complained I was told that the manager or chef wasn't there, and apparently the staff don't work without a supervisor on the spot..
I found the hotel a complete joke, will never go there again!

Lovely (for Maputo anyway :-) decor and centrally located - I was pleasantly surprised when I realised how much was within walking distance - this has been my 10th visit to Maputo. Stayed for 5 days - this give you a chance to also experience the negative side i.e. I had problems with mosquitoes and asked for a repellant (numerous times) but was told to have a drink in the bar and go have a look at the ladies (only afterwards did I realize that it meant that they were on the menu too!. Maybe you only got your mozzie repellant after becoming acquainted with one of the 'babies'!). Also sprained my ankle on the funny elevated path on the dining-room carpet and was hobbling around Maputo for the week.

This place seemed totally fabulous on arrival, and admittedly my room looking onto the pool in courtyard was great. Also the food was nice - with a good atmosphere.

But getting internet was extra - you can get it for free elsewhere - and there were quite a few cockroaches and an ant problem.

Not as nice as it seems on the surface, but nice and central and OK, wih friendly staff.

Room Tip: Ask for a room looking on to the courtyard.

This hotel may have been nice at one time but has been poorly maintained. My room had a broken window and a broken shower head which was never fixed during my stay. The staff seemed to be indifferent. The room was clean however if a bit rundown. The breakfast was just OK. I am sure there are better choices in Maputo at this price point.

Expected to have the basics covered by this hotel, but was sadly dissapointed. The basement rooms are the worst. They are mouldy, small and very smelly. The toilet and shower didnt work very well and the linen was not clean.
