We spent our last dinner in Mauritius with Jose at his home / restaurant and it was the most lovely evening. While we ate at many great restaurants during our trip at our resorts (we stayed at the St. Regis, Westin, and Shanti Maurice), this meal was by far our favorite.
We were the only people there that night and it was really like having a family meal. Jose invited us in and we ate delicious samosas in his living room. Then adjourned to the porch for an incredible crab soup and fish curry. We got to talk to Jose and learn all about his fascinating life and ask him the questions we had about Mauritius.
The food is out of this world. Jose studied culinary arts in Paris and had two Mauritian restaurants there before he moved back and that level of incredible food was felt.
Only tip is that it's a little hard to find at night and there's no parking lot. So if you have a car, just know you can park across the street near the beach.
