“Living a fairytale”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 21, 2013

Being a huge fan of colonial architecture, it was a really lovely experience for me to sleep over at Clos St Georges. The ambience was really cozy and welcoming with its queen size antique bed, embroided sheets and rustic décor. Waking up at sunrise to see the beautiful mountain back-drop and taking an early walk down to the waterfalls before a well set, healthy breakfast were added features which made it really unique. I should thank my hostess, Minta, for being genuinely charming and making my stay at Eureka so enjoyable. Will definitely come back soon!

Don't miss this attraction and get the guided tour. Fabulous!
Get there at lunch time and enjoy a meal from the old kitchens.

“Funny Experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 10, 2013

We were on honeymoon in Mauritius staying at an all inclusive resort eating, drinking and sitting on the beach. As our usual holidays are more back pack than luxury we thought we should get out and explore. Armed with a hire car and our lonely planet off we went. Having see the big write up on Eureka in lonely planet we were expecting....well......more.

We found the place more by luck than judgement. The girls on the door had lost the tickets so we had to wait while they slammed draws, huffed, puffed and generally stropped about the mislaid tickets. The guide did take us around the house and tell us all about it but.....there was nothing there, some walls, a roof, a few pictures and bits of furniture, no information, no history but for the 2 minute description given to us by the guide in each room. I still don't know very much about the history of the island. The walls had recently been repainted for a Bollywood film and there seemed to be a business running upstairs that had nothing to do with this historic house. It was all in all. Very odd.......but we loved it for that.

We also loved the lunch we ate while we were there. We shared one meal between the two of us (as we were overstuffed from all inclusive luxury) it was a delicious meal and probably more Mauritian than anything we had eaten so far. Really tasty and in very pretty surroundings, don't expect to learn to much on your visit. But it is well worth searching out for its eccentricities.

“Colonial house with a real estate sales office!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 24, 2013

This was my third visit to Eureka. It should be a nice colonial house, but in my opinion it's poorly maintained. Stuff is just exhibited without any information. Walls have been badly overpained and historical pictures are lying on the ground. Not really what you expect at a museum. And than upstairs there is a real estate or design bureau sales office. That's totally whrong in a museum for a colonial house! A few years ago upstairs more stuff was exhibited, but now pictures are exhibited of nice modern designed villas!
A part of the house is also used as a restaurant!
In my opinion the charm of this once very nice colonial house, is now destroyed by the restaurant and the sales office.
