I stayed here as a guest while also hosting a 4-day meeting at the Hotel Mande. The hotel is in a leafy upscale neighbourhood a bit distant from the hustle and bustle of Bamako, but in a prime location on stilts in the Niger River. The views along the river at sunrise and sunset are quite spectacular. The food choice, while rather limited, is well-prepared (no intestinal problems) and presented with care. In fact, the food (refreshment breaks and lunches) were a highlight. So was the service - the waitstaff were friendly, helpful, and cheerful throughout. It's nice to have WiFi that mostly works in the meal, lobby, and conference areas.
Apart from the lovely swimming pool (decent size for swimming lengths, actually), the amazing views, the good conference facility, the food, and the good service, there's little else to recommend. The rooms are tired, with peeling paint and ancient, barely-functioning air conditioners. The TV has a couple of channels that work. The water pressure in the bathroom is barely enough to wash your hands let alone have a shower. And the bed is uncomfortably hard.
But one must not be too fussy in Bamako, and celebrate the good things about this hotel - its people.More
