“Average hotel, great vie of R Niger”
Reviewed August 3, 2013 via mobile

Average hotel, over priced. Breakfasts ridiculous cost. Beers expensive. Good location with views over river Niger. Electricity cuts and generator do not synchronise so be prepared for 10 mins in the dark in an elevator.

When the night grows the crescendo of jazz music and djembe and guitar and the piano heightens. The girls come into action both inside and outside the longe bar counter and people across the nations from different continent gather in the action area-the musical lounge-bar of the hotel Laico l'Amitie. Located beside the mighty Niger river this hotel has a very nice swimming pool, some of the rooms has a good view of the river Niger. The hotel has a very big area and lot of empty green space surrounds this property. The rooms are below average and the cleaniness is not to the standard of a 5 star hotel- I was shocked to see such a messy room. The staffs are not friendly and keep a straight face. Everything in the hotel in my opinion is bit overpriced. The breakfast buffet spread is very good (lots of choices for both veg and non veg is there-starting from the dry fruit to the exotic african fruits to the bacons and sausages etc....the spread is really good) and apart from it the best thing about the hotel is that it gives you a feeling of a very large palace but aesthetically poor. If anyone asks me what is the best thing about this hotel then I would say without any 2nd thought-only and only the live music at the lounge bar. The musicians play really some great Jazz, Malian and African music. The sound of Djembe will reduce all the dullness and yeah you can even dance if you wish-I did that and got applauded from various French,English,Arabs,African nationals-where will you get such a mix of audiences:)....But be aware of the shady business that happens in the very lounge area-be careful....girls and touts are everywhere. It is located very close to the Grand Mosque of Bamako, mali museum, market area for buying artefacts, masks and the fabled Djembe...bargain as much as you can. One more thing hotel security is good but be careful of your valuable belongings.

Room Tip: Ask for the room overlooking River Niger.

You're back in the 70s in Hôtel L'Amitié. Stalinian building, aging equipment, slow moving staff, not exciting buffet for breakfast or meals. But rooms are rather cosy, you have a panoramic view on large gardens and Niger river. And above all don't forget you enjoy life in Bamako after a long and dramatic period

The Hotel itself is not bad, however the rooms have very old carpets, they are sol old that they are coming out of the floor and are very stained dirty, even though they clean the rooms on a daily basis.

My main complain is the PRICE CHARGED for services...the Hotel daily rate is more than fine for what it is, but you cannot EAT anything for less than 25 to 30 Dollars (I mean a single breakfast is about 26 US Dollars, a meal is about 30 Dollars...thus the Hotel is actually loosing business as most of the people staying in there go outside to eat (including drinks) for less than HALF of their price.

Lack of VISION from Hotel management.

Staff doesn't understand English so U find language issues. Restaurant has limited options for Indians especially for vegetarians is concerned. Hotel has huge golf park and good swimming pool which you can join provided you have enough time.

Overall I found its average and definitely not worth the 5 star status it has. Over Priced but considering Mali which has few travellers i think price is justified

The room at the Amitie' was modern, clean and attractive. The bed was especially comfortable. The view toward the river was panoramic through large picture windows. The room was quiet; the internet connection was free and unexpectedly fast. Good desk and closet space. Pretty good bathroom. Nice accommodation.

But the front desk and conference facility of the hotel did not measure up. The restaurant was not up to the standard of an international hotel. The buffet was confusingly laid out, and had very few local fruits or Malian dishes. What they had was edible, but nothing special. The conference floor was also confusingly organized, with crowded meeting space and oddly-shaped coffee break areas and public spaces.

Check out was a nightmare. The final statement was for more than the quoted rate, even though the lower quoted rate was actually what was charged for the room, with the calculation being done on a pocket calculator. The final bill showed that I still had a balance, even though the bill was paid in full. When I questioned this bizarre irregularity (even though it was to my benefit, unless they subsequently charged me for the "unpaid balance" on my card at some later time), the desk clerk became quite rude, accusing me of being ignorant. For a while he refused to process my credit card until a non-existent manager showed up. (He never did, and the desk clerk finally let me go, and stamped and signed that I had paid in full.)
