This hotel is going through and upgrading all of the rooms systematically. The non-upgraded rooms are normal ones, and the superior rooms are the upgraded ones. The difference is around $20-$30 per night. We got an excellent weekend rate - $130 for a superior room. Very very nice and large bathroom. Flat screen TV. New bed.
The hotel is very central for Lilongwe and the food in the restaurant is good. The breakfast was a very pleasant surprise - lots of fresh fruit. Eggs however you might want them. All sorts of sausages.
I would recommend this as the best place to stay in Lilongwe.

An old property which has been maintained but the age is definitely showing. If you have the option you should choose the Sunbird Capital which is also old but less so than this property. Given the paucity of hotels in Lilongwe - this hotel could serve the purpose for business travellers but there are better options in Lilongwe.

Stayed here because of being the 2nd best rated in Lilongwe but that is because there is not much better. Positive points: Staff were very friendly and accommodating, Clean room and surroundings. Negatives: Rooms very old and need upgrading, carpet in room dirty or old but I've decided not to walk barefoot at all, limited TV channels and most cater for Africans, Shower pressure bad and hot water come and goes, had to jump in and out and with it being a in bath shower with no slip mat it got tricky. Bed was old, had to roll around but ended up sleeping in the middle of the bed. Did not get bottle water every day. Had to pay for Wi-Fi (NOT FREE OF CHARGE) had to exchange USD for Local currency to buy Data from business centre. Gym is very small and with old equipment, don't even bother. Breakfast was the same boring food, no imagination. I travel a lot all over Africa but this was disappointing.
