This hotel is going through and upgrading all of the rooms systematically. The non-upgraded rooms are normal ones, and the superior rooms are the upgraded ones. The difference is around $20-$30 per night. We got an excellent weekend rate - $130 for a superior room. Very very nice and large bathroom. Flat screen TV. New bed.
The hotel is very central for Lilongwe and the food in the restaurant is good. The breakfast was a very pleasant surprise - lots of fresh fruit. Eggs however you might want them. All sorts of sausages.
I would recommend this as the best place to stay in Lilongwe.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a superior room.

An old property which has been maintained but the age is definitely showing. If you have the option you should choose the Sunbird Capital which is also old but less so than this property. Given the paucity of hotels in Lilongwe - this hotel could serve the purpose for business travellers but there are better options in Lilongwe.

Stayed here because of being the 2nd best rated in Lilongwe but that is because there is not much better. Positive points: Staff were very friendly and accommodating, Clean room and surroundings. Negatives: Rooms very old and need upgrading, carpet in room dirty or old but I've decided not to walk barefoot at all, limited TV channels and most cater for Africans, Shower pressure bad and hot water come and goes, had to jump in and out and with it being a in bath shower with no slip mat it got tricky. Bed was old, had to roll around but ended up sleeping in the middle of the bed. Did not get bottle water every day. Had to pay for Wi-Fi (NOT FREE OF CHARGE) had to exchange USD for Local currency to buy Data from business centre. Gym is very small and with old equipment, don't even bother. Breakfast was the same boring food, no imagination. I travel a lot all over Africa but this was disappointing.

I had a comfortable night here on business. Very clean, comfortable room (but in need of updating) and attractive grounds. I was greeted by name at both check in and departure--excellent service. Recommended. Glad renovations are underway.

this hotel charged a great deal of money for something fairly average. but it was quiet, had a (small) pool and best of all was located somewhere where you could walk out and find restaurants. that's worth a lot if you don't want to feel confined and don't want to climb in a car either.

If you need an old school hotel in the heart of Lilongwe then this hotel provides most of your needs - it needs a bit of a revamp but the staff are friendly and the rooms offer most of what you would need, clean central, mosquito nets, TV etc. My only criticism would be free internet is a must in 2013 and the cost from the hotel is far too high

The hotel is located in Old town and has a great central location. The staff are great and very helpful. The restaurant is great and has very nice breakfast. It has lots of space and a small swimming pool. The bathrooms seem a old but well maintained. It is a great place to stay in away from the hussle.

Room Tip: Rooms on the first floor.
