“Very pleasant boutique hotel”
Reviewed October 10, 2012

A very special place in Lilongwe, well managed, small, great service. The room was very nice, lots of space, very quiet. Located in a quitet leafy area, private garden was very nice to sit in with my laptop, wifi is available and reasonably fast. The restaurant was excellent, maybe pricey a bit, but that's to be expected with top quality food and wine. Overall, excellent experience, great choice for a short stay in Lilongwe.

I am not too sure in which property the previous reviewer stayed but this new hotel in Lilongwe is a complete revelation. We were pleasantly surprised to find this modern edgy hotel in a city dominated by staid b&bs and dated motels. A real bonus was that it is on the way from the airport in a quiet leafy area that was only 10 mins from the centre of town! The rooms are massive and blessedly cool even without the aircon turned on. We ate in the restaurant on 2 nights and to be honest,we should've eaten there on the 3rd. The food and wines are head and shoulders above anything else in town!Chris and her team seemed to never stop smiling and made every effort to make our stay comfortable. You will definitely see us again..can we please have the balcony room!? Lastly , free wifi throughout ...the bigger hotel chains should take note!!
PS..for those that really know Africa...the odd power cut and water shortage is nothing unusual!

Room Tip: All the rooms are huge but I loved the balcony room overlooking the gardens and pool in the main hou...

I wouldn't advise any one pay that much for the awful time I had there! I have never had to bad mouth a place iv stayed at in my entire life! Firstly it's nothing like a hotel infact it should be called a lodge! Secondly I came into town for a wedding, and the morning of the wedding had to check out and rush to an actual hotel to take a shower because their reserve water system wasn't functioning! And on speaking to the management I was told not to blame latitude 13 but to blame malawis water board. And that "point" was argued with me upon, no compensation or a "travel safely come back again soon" was exchanged! Infact one of the bar staff appologised and stated it was clearly a problem with latitude 13! In all honestly the photos of the place are an illusion, everythings cheaply done and they want to charge $270 a night. In my life I have never had such a terrible experience especially it being one of the most pricier places to stay at in Lilongwe! I would not recommend this place to anybody! The management need to pull their [--] socks up or shut down!!!

Rob M, Director of Sales at Latitude 13 Hotel, responded to this review, September 26, 2012
Latitude 13 is neither a lodge, nor a corporate hotel but represents a totally new concept in Malawian hospitality and was designed to meet growing demand from an increasingly sophisticated local and international clientele. As with any new venture there are bound to be operational challenges during the start up phase and we are obviously distraught to hear that any guest left our hotel dissatisfied. Operating in developing countries does pose challenges but it is our responsibility to overcome these and not compromise when it comes to service delivery. We take full responsibility for any short comings in our product and I would welcome the opportunity to address guests concerns personally.

Fortunately the property has been well received by the bulk of our guests and we are enjoying considerable support and positive feedback, especially for our restaurant. Our entire team has taken on board the comments from Nabeela M in Blantyre and we look forward to an opportunity to host them on their next visit to Lilongwe and demonstrate first hand that we do indeed deliver superb levels of service. We offer our most sincere apologies for the unfortunate experience.
