“Good place to stay in the City”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 7, 2014

We stayed here 3 different nights on our travels through Madagascar. We had 3 different rooms - all large, clean and comfortable. The reception area was being redone when we were there so our first impression was not good but once we made it past there everything was fine. Service was hit and miss. Some of the front desk staff's "service skills' could use some work. Our safe was locked when we got one of the rooms so we went back down to the front desk to ask them to fix it - after waiting our turn the girl said she would send someone up......1 hour later my husband went back down and asked if anyone was coming. The could not find the master key but were looking for it. An hour later we gave up waiting and went for dinner - no one ever bothered to get back to us and we were without a safe for the night. The next time we came back our electronic lock would not lock when we tried to leave the room, again my husband went down to the front desk, waited his turn and asked if someone could come and fix it. This lady came right away with the master key - locked it and let us use the master key until someone was able to come and fix the lock for good. So hit and miss. The food was OK. We found the breakfast quite expensive and the food at the restaurant La Saka was disappointing. We had read and heard good reviews about the restaurant but we found it to be marginal. Overall probably one of the better places to stay in Tanna.

Coming from East Africa I was not sure what the hotel would be like as the prices are quite reasonable. The rooms were nicely decorated, with very nice hard wood floors and a fantastic shower. We stayed on our way in and out, so we got to see two different rooms. Both were very nice. The restaurant at the hotel is amazing and also not all that expensive. Ask them to organize a place on the shuttle rather than a taxi as it will be quite a bit cheaper.

I was quite impressed with this place after I visited Andasibe and went back to tana. The room was very nice and clean. The garden has a very beautiful view and a swimming pool! You can find everything you want here...the price range is big!choose one for your budget!!!
The restaurant is also super good!!!(which has been recommended by lonely planet...remember do not rely on LP too much...cuz the information is little bit old!!!!)

breakfast is so so...find another choice if you can.
this area is safe!

recommend!!!

Room Tip: corner suites!!!bigger room!!!

I was quite impressed with this place: friendly staff, decent prices, a large and clean room, an excellent restaurant on-site (Le Saka), and a good location. Also very easy to convert Euros to local currency here (much easier than having to go through the excessive bureaucracy required at a bank, and safer than using the black market touts). Only downside during my stay was the very troublesome wifi which didn't work properly for the entire duration of my stay (apparently they have recently "upgraded" to a new system). Despite this inconvenience I would still recommend this place and would stay here again on a future visit.

The Sakamanga is a great hotel. From the moment you turn right into the hotel you enter a kind of museum with all kinds of memorabilia. Then, as you follow the staff to your room, remember which way to take as the hotel spreads out behind through all kinds of alleyways and buildings. The rooms differ in the hotel: from grand luxurious suites without mosquitos and with mozzie nets to smaller rooms that can be filled with mosquitos without mozzie nets.
If you have the chance, breakfast is great and offers a splendid amount of choices. We stayed here for in total 5 nights and had only opportunity for the breakkie here, and 4 other times at the airport at 5 am.
Locationwise: to the right you will find the old city center with the central market, the post office and the palace and all sorts of shops. To the left you find the major boulevards of the city. All in walking distance.
The Sakamanga holds a restaurant that is very popular with tourists, especially French. Food is very good.
