“western service in a chaotic city”

This is a great hotel, clean, good service at the desk, and a range of rates for rooms. I paid 39 euro, about $50, for a one bed room with bath. Nice patio lounge. Free wifi. Looks like they are adding a big addition with a swimming pool.

I had the pleasure of staying here on two occasions and both times was impressed with the staff and the service. The rooms are simple, but comfortable and the onsite restaurant has delicious offerings. The rooms can amplify noise, so be forewarned and travels arrive at all hours, so ask for a room in the newer section on a higher floor.

Room Tip: Rooms in the newer section, top floor for quieter room

I would absolutely recommend anyone to stay here while in Antananarivo. We spent a few nights here, tried both the cafe and the restaurant, and stayed in two classes of rooms (I think they were called "soft" and "comfortable"). First of all, the hotel is in a good location (very close to a pharmacy and a bank in the center of town), and all the taxi drivers know where it is. The cheaper room was around 20 euros a night, and the more expensive one was around 30. Both rooms were clean, spacious, and modern. The cheaper room had a bed on the floor, but the room was artfully decorated with a local flavor and the bathroom worked perfectly (hot water showers!). After our other experiences in Madagascar, that's all we could ask for. The more expensive room added a flat-screen TV and a balcony, plus the bed was a little nicer and the bathroom was bigger.
The hotel had all kinds of local art and artifacts, along with modern conveniences like ice (!) and free wifi. The wifi didn't seem to work very well in the rooms but was great in the cafe and the restaurant. Both food choices were excellent, though the restaurant was quite expensive by Madagascar standards (we spent about 35 euros for two, including wine). The cafe had a good selection of sandwiches, pizza and other smaller plates, and usually featured a buffet.
I'd also like to say that the hotel staff were amazing. A few of them spoke English quite well. They called ahead to Air Madagascar to confirm our flights, and called our hotel at our destination to make sure everything was ready. They were great!

Room Tip: They are all fine, though I imagine if you are traveling with more than 2 people you'd need a mo...

My family and I only stayed for one night along with another family but we loved the design. The hotel had so much character and we really enjoyed the hidden cafe in the back of the hotel. A truly lovely spot and well worth the visit.

We stayed at Hitel Sakamaga. It was a very enjoyable experience. We stayed in the suite. E20 more than a regular room. But u get the roof balcony and a lounge. Stairs a bit if a schlep but the hotel keeps a fine table at the restaurant so you can have a hassle free holiday. I found the room to be clean, neat and tidy.

Room Tip: Try to get the suite, more space. Or if you don't want to do stairs, try to get a room with acce...

Room 201. We loved this place from the moment we walked in. Friendly staff, and the room was cleanly decorated and the bright colours in the bathroom really cheered us up after our rustic accommodation in a National Park. Although not leaky, the sink was badly cracked and should have been replaced. The room was very clean. The food in the restaurant upstairs and on the breakfast buffet was really nice. Our only big annoyance here was the mosquitoes. An electrical repellent is provided, which is kind. However, it really is needed. We stopped counting after killing ten mosquitos in our room. The windows were closed and we can only assume (as we always check around) that they hide away in the wooden panelled ceiling. This was really horrible and we think mosquito grilles should be fitted to the windows. The place is characterful throughout with interesting old artefacts that act as a museum, such as old bank notes, and traditional tools in lit cabinets. We loved this investment by the owners. We would recommend this hotel very highly and only hope they can sort the mosquitoes as best as is humanly possible as this would make it the most perfect place to stay.
