We stayed here at the start and end of an Explore Worldwide small group holiday to Madagascar. It is well situated centrally. The hotel is quite old, with lots of steps and rooms on different levels, so not good for anyone with walking difficulties. Our room was fine, with ensuite and plenty of hot water for shower. Not plush, but I don't think many places in Madagascar are that plush!! The breakfast were good and evening meal very welcome after a long flight. Ameniable staff.

Madagascar doesnt have many high quality hotels. This hotel is a great deal for the price. Rooms arent anything special but they are clean with great service. Towels are clean but do have stains. You must know french to survive. And you get free wireless internet...granted it may go out at some points during the day.

You are situated by good eateries (i.e., smal cafes, hotelys--approx. $2.50 at most meals; great restaurants). You can walk to almost anything. I recommend a taxi at night for anything. From the airport, dont pay any more than 20,000 AR. Learn to bargin and stick to the price. And avoid everyone trying to give you help because they will do so and ask for a tip in dollars or euro at every point even if helping you only entails telling you that the exchange is on your right.

Rooms are spacious with balcony. Unfortunately they are not clean at all. Dust everywhere, dirty bathtub, dirty sheets, dirty towels. The frontdesk is willing to call a cab, but you have to pay for it. They wake you up at 8:30 am to inform you the restaurant closes (in case you want to have breakfast). The night before we passed the sleeping nightguard at 11 p.m..We were with four guests and neither the doorbell, nor our entrance did awake him. Come on in everybody, keys are behiind the frontdesk!

Stayed at the Radama Hotel two nights before departing on a Gap Adventure and was disappointed. The main problem is the hotel looks nothing like it is represented on it's website; the pictures must have been taken years ago. We found the hotel very worn, threadbare carpets, very tiny TV, stained towels and ants coming out of the sink. The shower flooded the entire bathroom and into the bedroom area. It looked nothing like what we expected! Reception was very pleasent and helpful. We didn't have to leave a deposit for the remotes for the TV or AC and the AC was very strong. It is very well located and we enjoyed walking to several restaurants in the area, but there are also several hotels in the area that charge about the same but offer nicer rooms, so we stayed at another hotel after our trip ended.Hilary Bradt's guide gives the Radama Hotel an "Upper Range" price which it has, but not the service or rooms to match it! Also their prearranged ariport transfer was very expensive at about $25USD vs our return trip to the airport, arranged by just talking to a taxi driver at $14 USD.

My wife and I could skype everytime, even if I was in bed. Isn't that simply luxury!!! She find it tough to be ten thousand miles apart, but I found THE HOTEL to be online all the time and free of charge.
Speaking about the hotel, very well located, renowned in town and good food, actually just the right services you expect. Well, maybe I'll see you there sometime.

This was the first time I visited Tana, I booked the hotel based on the reviews from Trip Advisor and to say the least I was disappointed. Entrance to the hotel is a small alley that led a small and dark "lobby". The hotel is well located in the middle of the city, the personnel were very courteous and polite. The first night I was given a small room with the smallest TV I've ever seen, a small bath and a crappy bed. The wooden floor was not evenly laid, so it scritches when you walk around the room. The remote for the TV, AC and the use of the safe involves a deposit of 4 euros each (I guess all the hotels should be the same)! Nothing works without the remotes, except to change the channels of the tv, you have to stand in front of it (and given where the tv was located, it gets quite tiring). The next day, they upgraded my room to a bigger one without any reason. I admit it was a pleasant one. The room was twice as big, so was the tv and the bathroom. They told me that all the rooms are the same price so it depends on your luck as to which ones are available. If you insist to stay in that hotel, make sure you ask for room 302 and do not take room 305!! Oh there is no lift in the hotel, so if you're on the third floor, avoid bringing heavy stuff around.
At first I thought all the hotel in Tana are the same, but to my surprise I visited couple of them and discovered that there were hotels that were twice as cheap, as well located and better decorated and equipped than Radama. I will not give you the names of the hotels because I want my views to remain independent, but a good search on google you'll find something better and cheaper. Good luck and bon voyage!

Malagasy touch for the entire experience, those people may not have fifty years of experience in international hospitality but you can appreciate great service. You meet Nalhy at the reception desk, very friendly man! I went in a four star hotel in France, the have wifi in the reception area and you must pay whether you need inroom wired internet! Be estonished to have at the Radama a wireless conectivity both in the conference room and in the restaurant (cosy by the way). Hotels downtown are expensive all around the world, but this little one is the best price found one mile around the very center. A tip guys: take one room at the back to have the city scenery, AND ask the music player teach you howto play their local bamboo guitar, AND try the amazing varanga at he the restaurant. Chuss!
