“Not in very good shape”
Review of Tsimbazaza Zoo

I liked the whole design as a park for children to play and for people to relax but the zoo part isn't in good shape and many cages are way too small in my opinion.

A huge zoo but i think needs a little bit of a clean up. the grass was long and there were some empty cages all over so not alot to see.
The lemurs were the main attraction and was fascinating to see all the different types. If this is what you going to see, i'd advise going to the Lemur Park and making the extra journey

We took some of the children from the orphanage I work at here last week and I was pleasantly surprised at the size of the place - there are nice green spaces, a lake in the middle and a general feeling of open space. However, the same cannot be said for the animals, many of whom are kept in small, tatty cages. They do have some interesting wildlife to see including camels, ostriches and giant tortoises, but from that point of view, it's not that interesting. Nice enough for a day out with children and a picnic, but needs some investment in the animals themselves.

What once must have been an lovely area is now bedraggled and sad looking. The whole area is dirty and the cages are poorly kept. At the end of the day for a little extra money, Joseph the zoo keeper will let you behind the cages and watch him feed the lemers. If you pay extra to see the aye-ayes after dark be sure to bring your own flash lights because the zoo has no illumination. Be certain to have your cab/driver stay while you are visiting the zoo otherwise their is no certainty that you will have any way to return to your hotel.

It is pity that such a large park has no explanations or names about the huge variety of trees , flowers and animals .
It is mainly used by local schools but foriegners are paying for it.
