This is a pleasant hotel but was arranged for us as a stop over between flights around Madagascar the hotel is a considerable distance from the airport especially difficult in the rush hour traffic, it has no air conditioning or mosquito nets the floors are wooden and there are people walking about all night there are also a lot of local dogs. If you are only in town for 1 night and travelling on this May not be the hotel for you. The food and views are very good

A small but amazing hotel. Rooms are different but well apppointed. Has been furnished in the old french style. Menu has good choice and well cooked.
Not a criticism of the Hotel, but avoid the Sundowner Foie Gras!!!!! when we found out how Foie Gras prepared in Madascar

Room Tip: I don't think there is a preference, but ours overlooked the Town.

We only stayed here one night whilst transiting back to the UK but what a place to stay. Great views, high over the chaos of Tana below, where over breakfast, you can watch the city wake up in the morning from one of the balconies.
There really are no faults with this place, we had a great evening meal, buffet breakfast had plenty of choice and was a good start to the day, really freindly staff who all spoke good English, which was a nice bonus.
Our room was HUGE, probably 50 feet long, the bed again was huge and comfy. With access to a large balcony, which is shared with another two rooms but we had this to ourselves during our stay.

Its about 30-40 minutes from the airport and well worth the effort to ecsape all of the same old, same old business type hotels that you will find in the city below.

It was a very, very nice experience. (big smiley face)

If you want to feel like a queen in Tana, if you like history and art, and being pampered, stay here. Each room has its own theme and history, every object in this boutique hotel has a unique story. Staying here is more than a sleep-over, it is a journey in Malagasy past times. Fabiola, the owner, has eye for detail and makes sure all her guests are attended to in the best possible way. The view is stunning, as it changes from day to night. Even for those, like us, who have lived in this city for many years, but never take the time to enjoy its strong points. So if you need a romantic hide out from the chaos in Tana, and sleep under the softest bed linens ever, find the Lokanga!

While this hotel restaurant is top quality, it has none of the ostentation common in similar establishments. The service is friendly, the cooking superb and the setting, in a beautfully restored traditional malagasy house, outstanding. Prices while on the high side, represent real value for money. The travel Advisor's 5 stars are fully justified; I will be returning, this time with my wife.

This is a small intimate hotel a short walk from the palace of the former queen atop one of Tana's hills. The rooms all seem to be individually styled and with lots of character and antiques. We made 2 stops during our visit to Madagascar and had a chance to stay in the Explorers Room at the top of the building and also the English Suite (even though we are Welsh!). Both were lovely but the suite was stunning, with use of a shared balcony overlooking Tana. Dinner was lovely - a gorgeous aromatic vegetarian curry and the most amazing ice cream we have ever tasted. Breakfast is great too, lots of choice and a relaxed atmosphere.
We found the staff delightful and would love to stay longer on our next visit.
Because the hotel is right in the heart of Tana there is some noise - dogs, chickens and cars - during the night, but you need to expect that in Madagascar.

Room Tip: Try to get the English Suite. Gorgeous.
