Review of Lemurs' Park

Lemurs' Park
Certificate of Excellence

We had an okay time, a small park with 8 different types of lemurs and we saw one chameleon. It had some interesting plants and the guides were well educated here. It's a good place compared to other "sights" in the Antananarivo area but we thought Croc Farm was a better experience.

We visited at the start of our tour, and found it a good introduction. The guides are excellent and knowledgeable. The park consists of well-landscaped 'wild' gardens on the bank of a small river. The gardens feature many indigenous plants, mostly typical of the drier habitats. There are several different lemur species, free to roam around the park. We saw Cocquerel's sifaka, B&W Ruffed lemur, Ringtailed lemur, Brown lemur and Grey Bamboo lemur. Some of them look rather scruffy but remember that this is a rehab centre and whatever life they are enjoying here is vastly preferable to the available alternatives, such as the cooking pot. They are all well habituated to people without jumping all over you. In addition to the free-ranging lemurs, there are also smaller nocturnal lemurs in cages, and a tortoise enclosure. Plenty of wild birds can be see in the grounds.

An opportunity to see a variety of lemurs but only to be visited if you have absolutely no other chance to see them elsewhere.

Nice short journey outside the city for those who don't have time to go up to the National parks. Lemurs look a big sad and sick but it is rehab center for the lemurs.

Lovely little park not too far from the city. It's a wonderful experience to observe the lemurs in their natural(almost) habitat. Cute little fellas. Guide was excellent and I can feel that they're genuinely passionate about the work they do here, I.e. it doesn't feel too commercialised. Don't hesitate to give him/her a nice tip, they really do do an excellent job. The picturesque sceneries is something to marvel and savour too. Being right by the river, one is treated to nat-geo-esque scenes - zebu (local buffaloes) grazing at the banks, the farmer's cone-shaped houses that's symbolically african, the irrigation system that runs into the fields...marvelous scene! The drive in and out of the park which is up and down hill was also wonderful. One can't miss the curious looking bricks - producing fields.
