My friend and I used Jeanbe tours for a recent visit to Madagascar and were very happy with the service. Madagascar is huge and the distance between places significant so we decided using a local tour company would be the easiest option to see as much as possible. Jeanbe was quick to respond, his English is pretty good so easy to communicate, and he worked with us to essentially compress 3 or 4 of his standard tours into a shorter time frame. We had a guide and driver throughout the visit. Jeanbe is a small company with just three guides and himself, and a number of drivers. All the hotels were great, we camped one night which I wasn't thrilled about but is part of the river descent to get to morondava and the avenue of the baobabs. We did find at the end of the river tour a new very nice hotel near the sacred tree so you might want to stay there, we stopped for drinks in the hot midday sun. As other reviewers mention, Jeanbe asked for a deposit to be sent by western union, this is pretty standard for local tour companies like Jeanbe so very easy and no problems. On arrival Jeanbe went through the whole tour, and we paid the balance of the tour at that point in cash. We used euros. Jeanbe booked one of our internal flights, and even bought us a SIM card to use (we had to give it back) whilst we were there so he could contact us about changes to air Madagascar schedule. Which changes frequently. Jeanbe even helped us exchange money euro to ariary as the bank was closed on Sunday, and this was at a good exchange rate. Jeanbe called his guide every day to check we were enjoying the trip and cared that it was everything we were expecting. We ended up doing a week tour and then going to nosy be for 6 days. What was great was Jeanbe organized and included our airport transfers for the beach (even thought he didn't organize that bit of the visit) this was really helpful and advise you to ask for it to be included. I'm a well experienced traveler, but sometimes it's just less stressful having transfers taken care of. All round pretty good value, we saw everything we wanted, and Jeanbe went out of his way to help us and ensure we enjoyed visiting Madagascar.

We chose Jean Be to organise our tour due to the excellent reviews he had received - was a good choice.

Jean Be had only two days to organise our tour, he did so with grace and good humour and he included pretty much everything, entrance fees, flights, organised trips and vehicles. We had an amazing time in Madagascar. Jean Be's contacts were good and he has a nice team.

I wouldn't doubt his trustworthiness at all.

The only thing which could have been improved would be the quality of the cars used for airport transfers (but that's probably more Africa than Jean Be). All other cars and 4x4s were good.

I'd have no reservations in recommending Jean Be.

Thank you.

Overall, I can't recommend this tour highly enough. Tao (our guide, Jeanbe's son) had brilliant English and his knowledge made our trip infinitely more worthwhile. Angelico (our driver) was superb, with very good English also and extremely safe driving. Jeanbe is very responsive to emails and provides a detailed itinerary before travel which provides a great deal of reassurance. All of the hotels we stayed in were lovely and much better than we imagined. There was absolutely no hassle throughout and we missed the convenience a lot when we then had a week in Nosy Be on our own at the end of our trip!

We exchanged a number of emails prior to our arrival to tailor our itinerary according to what we wanted to get from the trip. For us, the focus was heavily on seeing as much nature as possible- due to the immense biodiversity that Madagascar has to offer.

I traveled with one other girl (24 and 19 years old) and we felt completely safe and comfortable at all times, thanks to Jean Be's tour route.

We were met at the airport by Jeanbe and his son Tao, who was our guide. We were taken to the hotel in Tana for the night (which was much better than we were expecting!!) and given a run through of our itinerary. As other reviews mention, we sent a small deposit €50 to Jeanbe before hand and then paid for the remainder of the trip upfront in cash (Euros) when we arrived. We were slightly apprehensive about paying for it in full at the start, but they provided us with signed itineraries with the commitments of the route etc which made us feel a lot better about handing over a large sum of cash!

Needless to say, we had nothing to worry about. Having Jeanbe and Tao ensured that the whole trip was seamless from start to finish and despite it costing more than it would have if we did it independently, it was infinitely more enjoyable due to being hassle free.

Our first stop was Morondava- the Avenue of Baobabs. This is an absolute MUST for visiting Madagascar as it is truly breathtaking and the photos, whilst beautiful, do not do the size of the baobabs justice. We travelled to Morondava by taxibrousse with our guide Tao- another thing we were apprehensive about. Tao got us the front seats next to the driver and as unbelievable as this might be, we actually loved the 13 hour drive. The scenery is indescribable and the variety makes the long journey go so quickly.

We then went to the Kirindy forest where we saw lemurs and Fossa and had an amazing lunch!

Our next stop was a place called Anstirabe where we met up with Angelico, who would be our driver for the remainder of the trip. (approx 3 days with just Tao, and 11 days with Angelico and Tao).

Angelico drove us down to the south to Isalo National park. Angelico was an absolutely fantastic driver and we felt safe at all times. He followed standards of European driving and we can't thank him enough for making the many long drives so seamless.

Isalo was spectacular. I have attached photos of the natural pools we swam in with a waterfall. We had the best day there and I would definitely recommend a trip there!

We then travelled East and went to the Rainforest near Andisbe. Here we went on a night walk and saw lots of different species of Lemurs (mouse lemur, golden bamboo lemur, giant bamboo lemur, brown lemur etc).

We also went to another rainforest where we saw Indri Lemurs which were amazing.

I could go on for days describing all of the amazing things we did and saw, but I think it is better that you contact Jeanbe and let him know what kind of trip you would like to have and then let him tailor it accordingly. I have already recommended him to everyone I have spoken to about Madagascar. It will be the trip of a lifetime if you are open minded and flexible.

My fiancé and I took a 12 day tour using Jean Be tours. As we don't speak any French, we felt a tour was necessary (and we were right). Jean Be is very nice and a great tour operator. He had someone pick us up at the airport (late) and then met us first thing the next morning. He went through the tour with us in detail before we left, and he met us again at the end of the tour. He was very accommodating and worked hard to set up the perfect itinerary for us -- we had limited time and specific things we wanted to do, including climbing Pic Boby (we did it in 2 days, 1 night) and going down the river.

One of the most impressive things about Jean Be's tour was the organization and timeliness of everything. As the roads in Madagascar are terrible, it takes a long time to travel relatively short distances and so our schedule was jam packed. Jean Be organized a VERY effective tour -- there was not any down time between locations because the local guides met us promptly at each new place and the food, etc. was always ready to go. All of the local guides were nice and spoke some English.

Our guide for the entire tour was Funji (I may be spelling that completely wrong, I apologize!). He was friendly and overall a great guide. He even climbed the peak with us! The hotels were quite good for the most part. As something else mentioned, we too stayed at "La Pirogue" and it was the worst hotel of the entire tour. I'm not sure how many options there are in that location though to be fair.

Overall, we had a fantastic time in Madagascar thanks to Jean Be setting up a great tour. I would highly recommend this company!

With Jean Be we had several e- mail contacts before my daughter (18 yrs) and I left for 3,5 weeks of Madagascar. He planned a perfect 9 days trip for us in the western part of this extraordinary country. With his guide Maandah we had the most exciting 3 days on the triribihina river, both the Tsingy( big and small), kirindy forest( with the fossa), sunset at baobabs alley and Morondava. Maandah was not only a very reliable enthusiastic guy but became also a good travelling compagnion. We could als laugh a lot with him. His love for his country we felt constantly. The organisation of Jean Be Tours is very trustworthy and pleasant. The deposit via Western Union was easy. The rest of the payment we could pay in cash on arrival but it was not easy to get some bigger amounts of money at the bank. This was quite a hassle. Hopefully in future the bank will had a solution for this.
Jean Be Tours was top!!
After that we had a hike for 5 days in Marojejy national park, a must to do also. Not easy but also a life changing experience
