Good service by managers and reception desk generally but some of the other staff need some work. Food in restaurant is good. Atmosphere is friendly and casual. Internet is pretty good. Hotel is clean and moderately comfortable but not luxurious. Bar has a good atmosphere. Short stay is good. Clientele is good at restaurant and bar, and very friendly feel to the bar and restaurant. No exercise amenities, but I know that they are working on that in a major renovation expected to be complete by 2013.

Royal is the old standard for hotels in Monrovia, and their service is some of the best in town. Try the hungry cowboy burger if you're up to the challenge.

I would even go so far as to say that it is the best sushi I have had on three continents.

I highly recommend the salmon salad which literally melts in your mouth. The sashimi is fresh, and the sushi rolls delicate and flavoursome. It is definitely an excellent place to go in a large group, when you can order large plates and then share a wide variety of dishes.

The atmosphere on the few times I have been there has been quiet, and the low lighting gives it an air of intimacy. Do bring a jacket (and scarf and gloves) as it is freezing in the restaurant, with air conditioning set at around 16 to 18C. In monetary terms, the menu is expensive in comparison with other restaurants in town, but that really equates to around US $30-50 per person for a substantial meal.

This is definitely the place to go for a superb sushi meal when in Monrovia.

Even a fresh coat of paint does not hide the dingy-ness of this hotel. Not disgusting, but room and bathroom dirty. Everything old, without being classic or stylish. Again: not disgusting, but they could definitely buy new bed linen as well. Apparently the only Sushi bar in Monrovia, but I did not try it. For US$10 more you get a whole lot more value at the Palm Spring Resort down the road.

This restaurant doesn't look promising from the road, but you know a decent-sized hotel must have a restaurant...so once you get in you'll find on the ground floor a choice of a pleasant (but somewhat hemmed in) outdoor terrace that somehow manages to catch a breeze, or a barn-like but attractive air-conditioned indoor space.

The menu is pretty extensive, so should suit all tastes. My colleague and I were both happy with what we had ordered. Service was good. We chose to sit outside (and this will either be a draw or a put-off, depending on your tastes) and were entertained by some very friendly omnivorous cats.

I shall be going back to explore some of the other items on the menu. There's also the @Living Room' sushi bar in another part of the hotel (I've had mixed reports on this).
