A couple of times per year collegues of mine, or myself vist Monrovia. Because all the hotels in de city center were booked we checked out Thinkers Beach Hotel. The rooms looked ok, though there is no warm. We needed four rooms, but just before booking we walked to the beach and past two monkeys on the property. They had chains around there necks and the heavy chains had worn out the hair in their necks, they hardly could move at all. We asked a security guy (who wanted to charge a dollar per person for looking after the car) and a waiter who the monkeys were there. They said that the guests like that. We told them that only sick people like wachting small monkeys with heavy chains around their neck. The smallest monkey lives allready over two years like this. We know that Liberia came a long way, but this is unnecessary. It is animal cruelty. We have decited to boycot the restaurants en hotels that keep monkeys like that (also saw it at other places). I hope other visitors do the same.
