My wife and I were on contract to the EU and needed room with work space. I spent quite some time with intermediate booking agencies but finally managed to get through directly to the reservations manager at the Lesotho Sun who was not only pleasant and helpful (not like the booking agency people!) but also arranged a suite for 6 weeks at an extremely attractive discount. On arrival, we checked into the suite and the hotel kindly provided a second work desk. Things only got better when the management transferred us to a luxury room with a huge amount of space and comfort when we had to vacate our suite to allow repairs to be done to the bathroom next door. Throughout our stay, the service and staff were efficient, considerate and friendly - as was the General Manager. A happy hotel, very well run. Makes for happy guests! Thank you Lesotho Sun

The Lesotho Sun is a wonderful hotel in the city of Maseru. My experience is multiple stays of 2-3 weeks over the last 2 years. The staff is always looking to meet my individual needs. The food is very good and I especially like the Chinese Restaurant. The breakfasts are buffet with individually cooked eggs, very nice. The management has done everything they can do to make my stay pleasant. I love the place. Compared to other facilities in Maseru, this hotel is outstanding. The one challenge is the cost of internet service, it is common in Southern Africa to pay by the GB for usage, this is unusual in the world and the General Manager is looking to improve the cost structure for business travelers. I really like this hotel and look forward to a better internet pricing structure on my future stays.

Room Tip: If a business traveler who uses a high level of internet, ask for a high level internet card, one wi...

The breakfast is good. Beds are comfortable. The pool NEVER seems to be open, even when it is nice weather! Casino is full of screaming chinese laborers. Other than that, enjoyed my work trip.

Room Tip: Get a room with a view of something other than the depressing kiddy play structure.

Yes, the breakfast buffet pretty much makes up for a lot; but it's so close to South Africa, the food shouldn't be bad compared with the rest of Africa. The views are nice and the hotel decor is nice and this may be the best Lesotho has to offer. But there were several disappointments which really shouldn't exist in a Sun chain hotel. 1) Press P for Pool, but don't go swimming. They have the same, recycled, memo to guests explaining that the pool is being serviced. That memo just gets recycled each week apologizing for the maintenance on the pool. Hotels should itemize their accommodations so travelers can request a refund or credit on accommodations not available. 2)This is a Casino Hotel, or a Hotel Casino, whichever and I would think that security is tantamount in a hotel of this type. I would also think that the safes in the room would work; not so. When I asked for a repair on the room safe, an attendant came, looked at it and said that he had to get his manager involved and then applied the vanishing cream. I never received any contact from management during the rest of my stay. There are cameras abound in the hotel to ensure personal safety, but I'm not so sure those cameras would prevent personal theft and it wouldn't surprise me if the hotel came back with a disclaimer on stolen items. I had to carry my valuable connectivity equipment/laptops, etc. with me at all times. Why carry with me? 3) Because in addition to a non working room safe, the door to my balcony would not close all the way; it is rusted on the tracks and I could not close and lock the patio door, preventing anyone from just climbing up and over my patio and freely enter the room during the day. The open balcony door also let mosquitos in during the night. End of point, I just didn't feel safe in the hotel despite the cameras and security and not even a response from a Manager. 4) Upon check in, the discussion led to no iron for the room, just a charge for service for laundry and ironing. As a business traveler, most hotels around the world offer up to 3 garment free laundry/ironing at check in if they don't provide an iron in the room. NOT so with Sun. The check in clerk offered to have the Manager ring me up to discuss. I am still waiting for the call. 5) I had to use the A/C to drown out the noise from the street - yes, this hotel is on a hill side, but there seems to be a loudspeaker booming at the bottom of the hill in the Central Business District in addition to the constant car honking. The noise conflicted with my jet lag sleep time. The Air Conditioner screeches noise - after the lack of no response from hotel Management on the other issues, I just decided it wasn't worth it anymore and I just rolled over to my one side when sleeping. The gym here is very nice and spacious, so I could at least work out after meeting clients. 6) This hotel doesn't have hand wash cloths, at least not in my room and again, not worth fighting with staff to try and get. And then there are the problems that my colleague had with check in.......Do I need to keep going on with the million disappointments, all in one destination.

Room Tip: Choose a room in the back of the hotel to avoid noise from the Central Business District at the bott...

For a city that has limited resources, this hotel really surpassed my expectations. The staff were amazing and no demand was too much for them.
Seems like they have recently had a refurbishment as the rooms are modern, bright and clean, and the whole reception area looks a lot better than it does in the photos.

I would highly recomend this hotel when visiting Lesotho.

Stayed at the Lesotho Sun for 10 days in January 2012. The breakfast buffet (typically included in the room charge) was terrific and is hands down the best place to eat in the morning. The hotel is situated high on a hillside will a great view of the city and surrounding countryside. From most rooms it is easy to see the border between Lesotho and Maseru. Internet access is wired in the room and always operated as expected. Don't expect complimentary internet however, as the hotel charges 300 rand (about $40) for 1 gig of usage.

Service was always offered with a smile, and although the staff never went out of their way to be helpful they were still competent and friendly. Rooms are nice and well equipped with TV, separate tub and shower, hair dryer, safe, and mini-fridge (upon request). Room service was good, and the selection was acceptable. One night we ordered two full plates of frech fries at a cost of approx $5, so that was a cheap dinner.

The primary and nicest mall in Maseru is called Pioneer Mall and it is technically within walking distance (about 20 minutes) to the Lesotho Sun. Walking down the hill is much easier then walking back up, so a taxi may be the best option (approx $5 each way with tip).

My 2 year old sun enjoyed the playground, which is equipped with swings, slides, and an assortment of things to climb on. The property does have a pool, but the water looked a little murky to me so I didn't get in. The pool area does have a bar that is open during the day. There is also an extensive workout room that was never crowded.

The property feels very safe and secluded. There are multiple gated checkpoints for entry by car and the land itself is completely surrounded with a 6' fence. There is an Avis car rental office on site for those wanting to take day trips. There is also a tour provider onsite that can arrange various tours throughout the country. There is no business center, so don't expect to print or copy anything while at the hotel (this can be done at Pioneer Mall however).

The re-fit at the Lesotho Sun was worth the wait. The new hotel decor is great and gives the Lesotho Sun a great mix of african chic and western style. The new restaurants are good though we had to wait ages to get served at the chinese restaurant which has replaced the lehaha grill.

The rooms are the best in Lesotho, good quality linen and comfortable beds. If you want luxury at a price this is the place to stay. I have visited Lesotho on many occasions, staying at both the Lesotho and Maseru Sun and while the pool and gardens are much nicer at the Maseru Sun, the views and rooms are better at the Lesotho Sun.
