Perhaps the nicest place to stay in Maseru. The guest house is located only 5 minutes by car away from the center of Maseru.

The beds are very comfortable and heated. The bathrooms are nicely sized and there is plenty of closet space. There is a TV in each room. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in the dining room. The food is reasonably good, particularly when compared to the other two popular dining spots in Maseru (the Regal and Rendez-Vous at Lancer's Inn).

The only drawbacks are the intermittently poor water pressure and the lack of WiFi.

Really great find. This guest lodge is just on the outskirts of the city centre, and has lovely modern and clean rooms. It costs about a third of the price of the two major hotels in Maseru and has the most wonderful staff around. The front desk ladies in particular were extremely helpful at all times. They have a nice conference room if you're having meetings, and a pleasant outdoor seating area. No swimming pool, but I understand they're thinking about it. The security is pretty good. There's a bar on site, and a restaurant, but when we were there the menu was extremely limited. Good english breakfast though. They don't have wifi, but will rent 3G internet adapters for a pretty reasonable price. The 3G 'net was extremely fast and reliable, better than local ADSL from what I understand. If I go back to Maseru this is where I will stay.

As the heading says this guest house is as I like it. Clean, friendly and quiet. Just right for a day or two for business trips.
B&B and evening meals if you ask in advance.

Mohokare Guest House

My partner and I are from Durban, South Africa and are thus quite accustomed to first class/quality accommodation in and around South Africa. In fact we demand high standards, especially with regards to cleanliness, safety and a luxurious living space with all the mod cons. Lesotho is a country landlocked by South Africa. So it’s totally surrounded by a country that boasts a 1st world infrastructure. One would think that given the close proximity to South Africa the standards in a SADC country would be similar, but you would be surprised...accommodation in many parts of Africa are atrocious…I mean would you really pay R20 (USD$2) per room per night? If you prefer (or if you’re crazy) to pay as little as that, then I can rest assure you, that you will never see the rising sun again! To our surprise, Mohokare Guest House was a hidden gem.

When we found out that we needed to go to Maseru, we were in fix about accommodation…Do we take up a big name hotel that would charge R1200+ per night or take a chance with a little known guest house called Mohokare (R550 for a couple)? My partner and I stayed here for 4 nights in early December 2008.And it was terrific!

Firstly, Mohokare Guest House arranged a taxi from a company called Comfort Taxis (Tel: 62745199). The driver Khosana, is a remarkable individual who guided us throughout our stay, and gave us a tour of the city. Khosana was no ordinary driver, he is a part time CAT student who was well-spoken, intelligent, courteous, friendly, trustworthy and someone that really went the extra mile to assist us in our stay. He did not run a metered taxi, but charged R30 one way. He actually functioned more as a friend than a taxi driver, often waiting long periods for us, accompanying us to the local shops and he made requested impromptu stops at take-aways and convenience stores. Generally, he was like an old childhood friend who was excited and proud to show us the ins and outs of Maseru. Call him from Maseru on 62745199 or if you are dialing from South Africa on +0026662745199)

Mohokare Guest House has all the modern conveniences that one could ask for. In our room we were treated to beautiful wooden floors, key card access, tea/coffee with kettle, luxurious double bed and breakfast, a nice bathroom, TV with DSTV channels (SABC1-2&3,Etv, Mnet, Movie Magic 1,CNN, Supersport). All rooms have their own air conditioners and lockable safes & cupboards. The kitchen is open until 22:00, which is fantastic for those who get the late munchies. It has a nice breakfast menu and a fully stocked bar. Internet access (3G HSDPA) was free and fast- which was a huge bonus! It’s extremely safe and run by a friendly staff.

The property is set about 4km from the South African border and 3km from the city center. What is immediately striking is the tranquility of the area. It is close enough to the CBD yet peaceful enough to make you believe that you are on a country retreat.

I have no qualms in recommending the services of Mohokare Guest House (www.mohokare.co.ls) and Comfort Taxi’s when in Maseru.
